Most of my travels are to work which is 2.7 miles away, maximum speed limit is 35mph. I try to coast to the next traffic light to gain as much "free" EV as possible. I think that's why my estimated EV miles is less than actual miles travelled. Because estimated EV doesn't take into account the fact I'm coasting to the next traffic light (four total during my trip to work)

Ok Bisco, thanks so much for your input help and kitty too.
I think what I'm getting is in order to get more than 10-11 you really have to drive slow. Which in my area people get mad at you and swerve around you if you try to do that. In fact, I notice when people on the road see me or another Prius, they make a preemptive move around you when it wasn't even necessary, sometimes even slowing you (the Prius) down. (I can't get in their minds, but I think they assume at some point you will slow them down so they try and cut around you.) That's why Power mode in HV mode has been fun... because it trips these type of people out when they cannot get around a Prius and the Prius is faster than their vehicle.

If the A/C is running hard, it takes a significant toll on your mileage. If you aren't already, you might try running remote A/C to cool your car while it is plugged in so it draws A/C runs off the plug. If it takes a lot of cooling, it may require a few more minutes after remote A/C stops to charge back up to full, tho'.
That's not entirely true. Starting and stopping are a significant effect. I find that looking ahead and driving a little faster to avoid being stopped by a light (you can watch the flashing red walk signs that have the seconds until the traffic light turns yellow to help with this) can actually increase EV miles.

I get 17EV miles when i drive 25-30mph with very slow accel on flat.....if i do exact same drive at 40-45mph with harder accel at times i only get 10.5EV miles.

The "range" is a prediction, based on past EV driving...Mine has said 12range many times and I got 17....and after a few 17 drives my range the next morning would be up to 13.5 Keeping AC off, and fan OFF helps alot too. I use my windows more then ever in my life with this car!

so if you drove 10 times and got 17 EV miles, your range would increase each time as the computer learns your habits and can predict better. But still, even if you had 17EV range, and you went out drove 55mph you will only go 10-11 miles. they just tic off faster when you drive hard.

its no different then any Distance to empty FUEL reading of the past....its just that, a prediction. and its only magnified in all our eyes due to the fact its such a small distance figure. If your total fuel tank was only 1/2 gallon, your distance to empty would change dramatically if you got 55 mpg VS 20 mpg.

  6. that is probably the best answer yet. What was true for other generation Prii is also true for the PIP.

309 mile trip last weekend, no recharging.

That ended up dropping my EV estimate from mid 13's to mid 12's.

Couldn't care less. The battery-pack is still working the same afterward. The 58 MPG average from the trip itself was great. It's no big deal the fact that the EV miles displayed is lower now.

    12.7 estimate displayed this morning.

14.1 driven on my "Max EV" commute route to work.

In other words, no change in outcome despite seeing the estimate value going up & down based on recent activity.

I just charged up at a chargepoint charger and when I unplugged the EV range said 11.7 miles. I drove out of the parking lot (about 30 yards) and looked at the EV range again and it had gone up to 13.1 miles.

  13. This has happened a few times with me, I think it's a auto-correction.

i find the end of charge to be very quirky. specially if i pull the plug just before it's finished.

I hope you all aware that there is a difference if you start your car with the AC on and AC off.

With ac one you get 11.5 to 12 range

With ac off, you get 13 to 14.

Make sure you dont get misled by someone getting over 14 miles when they have the ac off.

Mine almost always says 10.6 miles, yet I get close to 15 miles each time with a few hills and then freeway.

Since I'm traveling on mostly flat terrain, my EV esimated is 11.9 miles, my trip odo after depleting battery down to .1 miles is 13.1 miles. At no time did my ICE kick in. FWIW just to set the record straight

I started with 12.9 EV predicted range 4 weeks ago......now after several 14-16mile EV trips My Range has crept up alittle each day. Went to 13.1 for about a week, then 13.3. then 13.7, Its now at 14.1. Car must learn from each trip obviously. But if i do a "quick" EV trip at higher speeds, it will just tick off much faster and i did see my range drop after a couple of those faster trips.

what are the other parameters? Flat terrain? ICE always off?
