yes, i wonder if they will remove pip battery and start from there up, or start on top of it? that's a lot of space to give up.
Uh uh--- something is coming soon! Looks like they are planning a 30-40 mile range upgrade. Installation Instructions | Prius Plugin 4KW Add On Pack
Since the PiP already has a 4kWh, with a [10-15] mile range, its not likly adding 4kW more is a 30-40 mile range upgrade. Maybe theira 8-110kWh would give that.
(sigh ...) that's not the way warranties work. A manufacture has to show that your specific mod caused your car to fail. So if a wiper motor goes out the manufacture is not entitled to say, "aha! you have aftermarket batteries! no soup for you!" And even if your plugin supply modification causes a hsd failure, plug in supply's warranty states they'll will fix hsd failures caused by their system. If you get 5miles per kWh, then the extra 4kWh pack gives you an extra 20 miles range. YMMV. SGH-I717R ? 2
I had forgotten that the PIS 4K, is 4KW usable (not total), so yes if you get 5m/kWh you could get 20 miles. Getting 30-40 means getting 7-10 miles per kWh, which is very extreme.
I love the idea of adding another 4 kw! Hopefully it wont be too expencive and as plug and play as possible. As for range, it could even be a bit less than 5mi/kw because of the added weight. Something to keep in mind...
There's no doubt about it.. You are correct. I always buy cars that are at least 2 years old, sometimes more. Same with computers. But with our Leaf and Volt we really had no choice. There were no used ones on the market.
Nevermind, I already read your thread and didn't realize you were the same poster. Plug-In Supply DIY | PriusChat
I emailed the company today and this is what they said;Hi Jim, Our 4KW for the Plug In Prius is available for order now. The DIY price is $6,000. plus shipping or less. The RTI (Ready To Install) price is $6,500 plus shipping. Installation will take you 8 hours depending on how you want to do things. You will be able to do it if you are mechanically inclined or have worked on cars. Regards $6k is a lot of money to go an extra 20 miles on electric. I was hoping for an add on battery that would be around $4k TOPS. :/ Its cool they are offering it though.
Oh . . . . just in case some aren't aware - I know there tends to be more newbies here in the PiP subcategory. If you've only recently concidered more PHEV range, you may not know there all kinds of 'quality' levels - turning on who manufactures your kit -so just remember the old expression; "Beware of imitators" Plug In solution 10kWh Conversion | PriusChat You do not want to get involved with the imitators. It's easy to get the 2 of them confused with each other due to the very (deliberately) similar names. As with any big financial decision, you get what you pay for. SGH-I717R ? 2
