Can't find my original post re entering longitude, but thanks to the person who said ignore the minus sign. Beside that, it turns out the unit wants three digits for the degrees, i.e. you must enter a zero first if your destination is less than 100 degrees west. I did all of the above and it entered OK, and a believable route was plotted.
