This may be the ultimate newbie question...what is the card holder for on the left side of the dashboard just under the vent? Credit card? Toll booth card? The owners manual does not address this except to show a generic card being slid into the slot.
You can use it for any type of card you would like, I usually use it for my parking card or ticket when in a parking garage.
Yeah I think I will probably never use that, though it is a funny idea, because I'll have he opportunity to use it so infrequently that when I could use it I will probably forget.
Exactly! Only my Dr's office has a ticketed garage and the two times I was there I used the visor by habit...
I find it to be a thoughful touch. If anything, I think I'd prefer it on the right of the steering wheel so my passenger could have access and figure out the tolls. Since it's not, when I have a passenger, I hand it to her for safe keeping. When I'm alone, however, I think it's nice to have a safe place to store where I don't have to concern myself with it, possibly, disappearing somewhere when I need it to pay a toll.
I love it. I used to put my parking garage ticket in the CD player slot... until one day when I had to fish one out of there with tweezers.
you can only use it for what toyota tells you that you can use it for. just like with the bottle holder in the side of the door. it is for bottles only. the picture tells you this. is it bad that when i read the title of this thread for the first time, i thought there was a virgin posting a thread about something to do with the prius?
Has anyone considered any Mods for this? As a "card" holder, it is useless. Slightly larger, it could hold keys.. or phone... or an entire world of options! But as it is... its useless. I don't see why any self respecting engineer would design such a thing... that will be used by so few. IMHO. Sal
Some resourceful guy will make a replacement pull out drawer with a rubberized bottom like my 02 Honda had. Those who want to keep tickets could, while the rest of us could use it for change or knick knacks.
Without knowing exactly what is behind the card holder, it is hard to tell if a drawer would fit. I keep calling cards in the slot ... remember those antiquated things we used to remember folks phone numbers etc before cell phones.
I use it all the time for my parking garage tickets and on occasion even a credit card (from being too much in a rush to put cc back in wallet at drive through). Now, I used to put receipts folded in there, too - until a receipt got pushed back and thus stuck by accident. No plans to fish it out anytime soon. Hence Im all for a pull out drawer with a top slot for a card or two, too. If you compare the size of the pull out cut holder on the passenger side to the space is the card slot, it appears that a little drawer could easily be added but a bit narrower than the cup holder. Plus, there is likely free space to add one of those drawers y'all are discussing right below the cup holder. I rarely use that cup holder due to how fragile and simply in the way it usually is. I wish my SOS button area also had the pull down shades storage. It should.
I use mine for aaa card and sometimes for registration etc. But otherwise I think it's a waste. I use the sunglass holder for registration and dl most of the time. That's another wasted spot for me. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I'd love to see someone modify it by having a little pull out drawer or an retractable small cup holder, like for a small cup of coffee or soda can. A little drawer would be neat, something that a phone could sit upright on for GPS functions.
