    Hi Everyone,

I would like your collective opinion on whether this is a decent price or not. Here is what I found:

    2011 Prius 3 13,500 miles $22,000

    I can get 2.24% financing.

    Best,
    Doug

    Hey Doug,

I just bought a 2012 Toyota Prius 3 for $25,800 OTD with 0% financing through a local credit union (was offered 2.9% for 60 months through Toyota Financial Services). You should be able to form your own conclusion based on the numbers I have provided.

I paid 27 and change for a new 2011 Prius 3 back in September. With 5.49% interest through Toyota (credit union was ~8%). My car has 21k on it now. I'd say it IS a good price, depending on where you're located...but you COULD get brand new for not much more like someone else said.

I'd say no. Knock a year oof a new 2012 and it's really not that good, especially if you value 3 door smart key. New car means an oil change and tire wear saved. There should be deals on 2012s and if you're willing to buy used you should be willing to travel to get a deal on a new car.

By that I mean really OTD. Tax, title, tag, first tank of gas.
You're not getting robbed, but it's not a really great deal either. As the previous poster said...depends on where you are. If you're in the PRC, or in one of the other locales where G3's are a little harder to get a good deal on, then it's a little better. If you're in the Rust Belt...shop around some more.
    There's a recession on.
13K isn't many miles for a 2-year old car. I'd be interested in knowing why somebody kicked it to the curb, and I would be interested in seeing the vehicle's history before I counter-offered.
If this is a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) then I'd act interested and see if you can chisel then down a little more.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for your responses. We met the salesman and drove the car. While it drove well, the motor for the a/c was extremely loud. The sales rep tried to convince me that I just was hearing things. I told them I had just bought a used Prius back in June and it never made any noise. Still he tried to say I was just hearing things. He finally agreed to go and listen to a new car because he was sure it would make the same sound. He came back with a bit of crow stuck between his teeth! In spite of this he still wouldn't lower the price because he said that it was a certified car so I could schedule a time and they would fix it for free. We decided to walk.

I found a 2011 p 2 with 9k miles on it at a different dealership. They wanted...and I am not kidding... $26k. When I pointed out that the new car part of their dealership had a 2012 Prius 2 for $25 he started to go on about how this was a better car because of the warranty. I didn't feel like wasting time educating him on simple math. Yes, I teach fifth grade math everyday as my job, but that is to kids who are learning math. If he doesn't get it at 40 years old I don't think he ever will.

I finally found a new 2012 Prius 2 for $25,100 OTD. I have about three days to get a car because my car insurance ceases to pay for my rental on Friday. I needed to find the best price I could locally. I wish I could fly to SoCal because it seems all the really good deals are out there. In Cincinnati, with gas hovering between $4 - 4.25 no one is going below $24k. This one went to $23,465. I am hoping for the best when I go in to seal the deal. I'll update either way.

I think he gets it..... I think the math that he was doing with his own math..... that means he was trying to pay his rent baby

To be quite honest $25,100 OTD is a fair price. You should try emailing a couple of dealerships under a pseudonym and offering $26,000 OTD for a Prius 3, unless you have your mind set on a Prius 2. It will be in your favor due to the clearance event going on, which rewards dealers for volume rather than the bonus they receive from selling a car at premium. I also did a search around Cincinnati and found that dealers within 50 miles have a large inventory of both Prius Two and Three. Regardless, the quote you received is decent and I do not know how the market is in your area.

Thanks for your response. I looked at Dianne's prices in SoCal and they were only $500 less. It would cost that much for a plane ticket so I feel like I am breaking even. I'll try the other site you mentioned. Hopefully I will find a hidden gem somewhere. Thanks again for your input. It is much appreciated!

Colbertfan, I think you're getting a fair price. The Costco buying program in Cincinnati will lead you to Dave Roth @ Beechmont Toyota. I just checked the Costco Auto website and base Prius Two delivered invoice price is 23,355. Costco program is $500 over dealer invoice so that would be 23,855 + 6% tax = 25,286. So you're right in that same range. Nice part about Costco program is it's all super professional.

I bought my Prius v from Dave and he was great - he spent at least an hour before we started the test drive explaining to me all the features of the car (I was really curious about the AT package), then we drove and he let me go in search of some big hills because I was concerned how slow I'd have to climb hills (you know that's a problem in Cincy). I tried the same kind of test drive up at Kings Toyota and the guy wouldn't let me leave the loop of the automall and he was checking email on his iPhone the whole time. Dave called me a week after I purchased the car to check in if I had any questions, when he got my VM he also sent me an email to check. Hope the person who gave you the run-around wasn't Dave, I'm recommending him to lots of people.

Dianne does not offer the best deals in SoCal, not even close. Most people on this forum like dealing with her because she is a pleasant person. It would be quite easy to get a Prius 3 for $25,800-26,000 OTD from most dealers in SoCal. Longo Toyota, which is a volume dealer in SoCal will have no issue offering you the prices mentioned above. When I bought my car from there, they had 150 Prius in stock. I completely agree with you that it might not be in your best interest to travel thousands of miles in order to save a few hundred dollars. Nevertheless, I work hard for my money and I try to get the best deal possible. I always keep in mind that people working at dealerships also need to make a living, that is why I never have an issue giving a little bit above the invoice price.

I'm from Cincinnati and feel your pain. I didn't have any luck with the Costco program as I had contacted Beechmont just prior and got stuck with some other yahoo who "emailed me first." I looked all around the midwest, northeast and east trying to get a deal.

I did end up finding a price locally I was comfortable with on a Prius 2. Call Abbey Brunner at Performance. She was willing to do what it takes to help get the car and price you want. You may even do better because it is now the end of the month.

For a Blizzard pearl Prius 2 my cost was:

    MSRP: $25,414
    Price w/ Doc: $22,676.87
    Out the door was $24,183.37

    0% financing 3yr

I also have a $250 "search is on rebate" which brings the total before TTL to $22,426.87

It's the end of the month, so they may be more likely to make a deal. Just be ready to sign on the dotted line!

I just called Performance. Unfortunately Abbey is not working tonight. I'll try in the morning and hope for the best. I saw you mentioned the "search is on rebate". What is that?

I am trying to get a three for lower than $25k, but all the dealers are holding firm at that price.

Here's a thread on the rebate: If you bought a Prius in Aug 2012 - $250 rebate | PriusChat. I actually just got my rebate card tonight.

In theory, the 3 should cost about $1,000 more than the two. It took awhile to get to the price as most dealers in the area, as you are finding, were close to invoice or even MSRP.

    Locally my experience was:
    • Kings was way high
    • Kerry was willing to deal but couldn't get to the price I wanted
    • Joseph gave a decent starting price but didn't have the car I wanted
    • Beachmont wouldn't give me any price on the phone. I tried to work through Costco/Dave Roth, but got stuck with some idiot. Actually spoke with Dave and he was pretty straight up and wish it had turned out differently.
    • I tried several Indianapolis dealers, but Ohio prices seemed better.
    • Columbus and Dayton were about the same as Cincy
Another option if you are adventurous is to do a search on Cars.com and autotrader for 500 miles away. There is a chance there may be some good deals in other toyota regions especially with it being the end of the month. It may cost you $300-$400 and a day of travel, but you could potentially save some dough. The only problem might be getting a flight on the holiday.

Mrstop: I worked Abbey and she found me a new 2012 Prius three. $23,751 + TTL. $25,610 OTD. Not the exact color I wanted, but for a good price I can live with it. Thanks again for your help!!

Sounds like you did well and glad it worked out for you! Maybe we can get her to become the "Dianne" of the midwest?

I saw your accident thread, hopefully you have better luck with the new one. Maybe I'll see you on the road some time...

She hadn't heard of Priuschat and was flattered when I told her that you recommended her. I told her that she should really take advantage of this board because it could potentially be a lucrative opportunity for her.

Thanks again for all your help! I hope to wave hello to you on the road as well.
