A couple of months ago, I had a front power outlet failure so I replaced the corresponding 15 AMP fuse in the instrument panel under the dash which seemed to resolve the issue. However, it recently failed again and when I replaced the fuse, it did not solve the problem. Any ideas?
Does the 12V power outlet operate, located in the center console between the two front seats? Are all other electrical accessories working? If yes to both questions, then I would suspect the Power Outlet relay. This is hiding behind the instrument panel on the left side. It will probably be necessary to remove the black plastic panel above the steering column (which houses the POWER button) for access. Consult techinfo.toyota.com and look at the electrical wiring diagram for a view of the parts installed in the instrument panel area.
By failed again, what are you plugging in? Is what you're plugging in causing the fuses to blow? The only times I ever blew a fuse in my Prius was when I plugged in this one particular power splitter, so I lost power to my power outlet. I replaced the fuse and tried again w/that splitter. It blew a few again. I no longer user it. My other power splitters don't have that problem.
Patrick, Great gouge. I'll check on this. nh7o, Good idea. It may be a simple fix. cwerdna, I plugged in a power adapter for an iPhone; it didn't work. Nothing more exotic than that. Thanks all for the assist.
^^^ It might be defective or badly designed, causing the blown fuse. This is more likely if it's not from a reputable brand.
