How do you tell if a Gen2 Prius has Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) ? I plan to buy a used 2006-2008 soon, and want: 1. VSC 2. side-impact airbags 3. roof/curtain airbags I believe the airbags are labeled, where they're located. But how do I tell if VSC is there? thanks Chris
If you know the VIN number you can do a carfax report. That will tell you options. A dealer could check the options with a VIN also. The airbags are labeled. I believe that the airbag light and the vsc light flash up upon a start.
The airbags are in the pillars which are labelled. If the car has foglights then it has VSC. If it doesn't have fog lights then it may have VSC.
1. VSC - check the eBrochures and option packages for the 06-08 model years; there may be a physical way to check, but I don't know it. 2. Side-impact airbags - it's standard equipment for 07-08 model years; check the eBrochure and option packages for the 06 model year; see if there's a SRS tag sticking out of the side of the front seats. 3. Roof-curtain airbags - it's standard equipment for 07-08 model years; check the eBrochure and option packages for the 06 model year; see if the front A pillars have engraved in them something about airbags. Here are the 06-08 eBrochures: 06_prius.pdf 07_prius.pdf 08_prius.pdf
Correction: You CAN physically check if the car has VSC. Press the Power button twice without stepping on the brake. This will, among other things, bring up all the lights on the dash ... and if the car has VSC, there will be an amber dash light saying "VSC" ... see photo below: [IMGLINK]http://priuschat.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=15849&d=1245725245[/IMGLINK]
Are there any other indicators on the dash to indicate VSC? When pressing the power button twice without your foot on the brake, I have one 04 Prius where an indicated comes up that appears to be a road with a snowflake on it. Another has what appears to be a bumpy road in parenthesis with an exclamation mark. Thanks for any help
The snowflake icon warns you that outside air temp is ~35 degrees F or lower. Therefore, watch out for icy roads. This icon was eliminated for model year 2006. The curvy road with ! shows you that one or more tires are slipping. If you don't see VSC as a warning icon, then your car does not have VSC.
Are you talking about the TPMS light? See TPMS Warning Light: Know What it Means - Cody's Corner | Tire Rack.
VSC does not show up with a VIN check. I know because my insurance agent ran one when trying to get me a rate discount for having VSC. My 07 Prius VIN didn't show it has VSC, when in fact it does.
