Of those of you who have replaced their squawkers, has anyone kept the originals? If so, could you measure the distance between mounting hole centers? My car does not get in for another 10 days, and I'm fabricating brackets now so the speaker swap-out can go a little quicker when it arrives. Measurements taken from inseek's pictures show it to be roughly 3 7/16", but I'd like to verify before I get to work.
Here is what I did with the squawkers. Rip them out of the mounting brackets and mount the tweeters in them.
Have you guys listened to the 7.1 system in the 2012's? The sound stage is on the top edge of the dash. For a bone stock factory system, I am impressed. Mike
Spiderman, I only installed the tweeter so far and still have to complete the 6.5" in the front doors.
I finally got around to measuring the hole to hole distance referenced in the original post. It is pretty close to 3 1/2 inches. Mounting plates for tweeters or mids to replace the front squwakers can easily be fabricated from 16ga steel in an hour or two: Print the attached file "Prius Squwaker Mounting Plates.pdf" on label paper and adhere to a 6" x 4" blank Size center hole for your tweeter mount. Hole on pdf is for a 2" opening. Cut with a 22-24tpi saber saw blade Drill 1/4" mounting holes Debur and sand Makes for solid mounts with little more effort than it takes to cut up the existing squwakers to use as mounts.
