Here's something a little different… Single DIN HU upgrade with Scangauge II installation. I would like to extend thanks to Spiderman, XS650, and Frodoz737 for all HU the picture tutorials and advice. This looks really nice! I upgraded my head unit to a single din as well and was thinking that I'd put a Scangauge in the lower din slot if I bought one.
Do you steering wheel controls work with these head units? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am not much on audio tech. Thanks!
I know this isn't a very detailed response, but you do. However, there are plenty of kits and harnesses that you can buy to re-enable the steering wheel controls. I have a friend who did that and it's common for people to want to keep their steering wheel controls. I'm not too certain of the specifics though.
If you purchase a SWI (Steering Wheel Interface) kit then your steering wheel buttons can control the aftermarket head unit. There are a couple of different solutions out there - I went with the Metra device and also purchased the Toyota harness. This was really simple. Here is a picture of the gear installed. The SWI is the small box in the lower left and the Toyota harness is also shown. This plugs directly into the factory wiring and when first turned on, the unit will detect the vehicle it is connected to and automatically configures itself. Could not be any easier.
