It's been a long, tireless, painful journey filled with promises, outright lies and lots of waiting. No, I didn't just get off work at the office, I've been shopping around for a new 2012 Toyota Prius C3 in the Northern New Jersey area.

Yesterday I gave a $300 deposit over the phone to an out of state dealership in New York to secure an incoming C3 Here are my pricing stats.

Offer price: $21,996.56 Prius C3 in absolutely Red, No options, but includes Carpet Mats
OTD (out the door) price: $23,935.72

    Did I get ripped off?

My OTD for my C3 was about $23,150.00 - including carpets - however, the dealer was desperate to move stock (month end). Our tax rate here is only 7.75% in Illinois so I don't think you got 'ripped off'.Besides, you still paid under MSRP :)

I think I meant to say no additional options such as the moonroof or larger wheels. Oh and I think I left out an important point to my original posting... I was looking for a good to great deal on the C3 as well. Not just buy it for MSRP. My target was actually an offer price of 22,111.

I am solely interested in a C3 and the multiple dealerships I contacted either acted like the car needed to be made by a higher power itself or I needed to pay much over MSRP to get one. There lies my "difficulty" in finding a C3 =P

This is my first new car purchase and I always heard of crazy car salesman tactics but never really thought they actually would attempt to pull some of them on *A-Hem* me.... haha! Maybe I look like a "sucker". (is that ok to write?)

Thanks for sharing your pricing to compare! Also, I went through my credit union "PenFed" to finance the purchase. For the month of August only they have a special where its .49% for 48 months if you use their car buying service.

I've been waiting for my SRM C3 with SR & AW which I ordered back on the 25th of June. From what the dealer has told me, it arrived at port on the 7th and at will be at the dealership on the 15th. I'm in Central Jersey and what took so long to get my car was the fact that not until this shipment, Summer Rain was not shipped in this region. Two weeks after placing my order, the dealership had an absolutely red in the same specs. I have a Costco membership and out of curiosity had gone on the Costco website to see if they had any kind of discounts on cars. LOL, I figured if Costco can get you a casket or a vacation at a decent price, why can't they offer discounts on vehicles. Well curiosity paid off because they hook you up with a dealership with no obligation, you do the test drive and they show you what kind of discounts they offer. I was able to get my Prius C for $250 over invoice. Some vehicles like the Carola were 1,000 under invoice, combined with the 1,000 cash back they offered would have been a great deal for someone looking for that vehicle. The Costco website shows you the invoice and MRSP of each vehicle. After everything I had added onto the vehicle at port I save 1807.00 under MRSP. Unfortunately the 7% sales tax pretty much wipes out the savings. A person at my job said if you buy a vehicle out of state and register it in NJ, you don't have to pay the sales tax. If that is true, you just save yourself a good chunk of money right there.
