Don't let it bug you - and don't worry about the whole hyper mile thing. It taks a bit of time to really get it down. Whether you're driving a Gen II:

Or whether it's in a PiP doing CS mode:

Many here didn't even think to try and master any hyper mile techniques until their rides were a year or two old. You'll find after many months, for instance, the Prius is broken in ... the tires are broken in, and results get better. On the other hand, after you've DONE hyper mile'ing for years, many don't even need to watch the gauges (I'm hoping some will chime in here . . . . maybe john?) and can merely sense where the modes are at, just by listening and being aware. As an aside though - imo in DOES take a bit of the OCD personality to even WANT to master majorl hyper mile skills. It starts real basic . . . high tire pressures . . . block heather . . . scan gauge . . . learning the patterns of your local red/green lights etc. You may find you don't really want to get this crazed.

Nice job, Hill. Great numbers! It is harder to hypermile a Prius simply because it is more efficient already. That said it clearly works but takes patience and practice.

I noticed on my recent test drive that the car will regen brake slightly when you lift off the throttle. Seems like you need just the slightest touch on the throttle to actually "glide" with no energy in or out of the electric motor. Can you shift in and out of "N" on the fly?
