Finally, after a number of postponements my RED Prius was delivered! On the way from the dealership to my house (about 40 miles, I think) the car got into some rain.
I was concerned that because of the dirt on the car, I might miss some possible dings or scratches, so some "drama" ensued. I said that I cannot accept the car in this condition and sign off on it. We had some "back-and-forth" with the dealership over the phone. At first they were quite unhappy and said that they would just take the car back, clean it up, and then I would have to go to them to pick it up. There was no way I was going to let this slightly dirty beauty go...

Then Eureka! - I said, "What about a car wash? We can take it there together with the delivery person, and if it's all fine after, I'll sign the paperworkand pay."
They agreed, and we brought the yet unpaid for car to the wash to be washed and waxed.

The car looked fantastic after the waxing (Carnauba? Caruba?) no scrathes or anything like that. Love the color, love the tan leather interior. I used the checklist from this forum. The delivery person (a twenty year old girl) said that she'd never seen it before and asked to keep it. She was very nice but not really knowledgeable about anything that had to do with the gadgetry, even though delivering cars is her full time job, and I was told that she was a "specialist."

Unfortunately I can't post any new pictures in direct sunlight for you, I left this morning for CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, and didn't feel comfortable taking the Prius before I even looked at the manuals. So, I'm here in Vegas, to look at gadgets, pining for mine inside the Prius in my garage... :)

Are you saying they let you take the car without signing the papers or paying for it? How did you pull that one off?

Welcome to Priuschat. Please don't let the ravings of one unhappy poster influence your thinking about this forum. For the most part, you will find nice people here.

This sounds like the rantings of an immature kid who either gets everything he wants or a nouveau riche nice person who doesn't really care about his money. Listen, not everyone has money falling out of their pockets or everything handed to them on a silver platter. A $20,000 - $30,000 car is still an investment -- it has value, it has equity and it'll most likely get sold or traded in.

You have no idea how dirty the vehicle was on delivery and what it potentially could have been hiding. So, grow the hell up and learn about the value of a dollar.

What do you do about the antenna when you run a Prius through the automatic car wash?
    Can you/should you remove it?

Who in their right frame of mind would let anybody drive their ferrari, for any reason?

OH please don't get me started... a Yugo is a WallyWord or is it BigLotts now.. cheap type of car... not the Prius.

There are people out there that will drive the Prius over their ferrari any day.

enough said.. I have better things to do than read junk like this.. but remember this it is all how you look at it... a hill is a mountain to a ant.

Congratulations on your new car! Hope you have plenty of time to enjoy it when you get back from Vegas!

Ignore daronspicher's post....I felt it was quite rude and out of place. Since when is a $20-30K car a poor man's vehicle? Last I checked, that's a pretty nice chunk of change.

What a "nice" way to highjack a post...
If I was buying a $30 "disposable" toaster and it had scratches on it, I wouldn't take it either. I work for my money.

Reminds me of what my mother always used to say, "If you don't have anything nice to say, and the person didn't do anything against you - just say nothing"

And why are you on this chat if you think it is a stupid low end car? It actually seems to be a very sophisticated piece of machinery and stupid Californians played a major role in developing the technology, such as Quantum Technology of Irvine, California, which produced injectors designed specifically for hydrogen.

..and all I wanted was just to add to our collective priuschat stories and get some congrats....

I agree. Congrats on your new car (and to me too for my barcellona red #7). I keep my cars forever, my last was a 1992 Saturn. So when I get something new I want it to be "just what I want" because I know it will be a long time before I get something new again. You have every right to want a clean car on delivery.

    Ignore his post.

The people that I know with the so-called high end cars (BMW, Ferrari, Hummers) are the ones with the throw-away mentality who don't care about keeping 'new things new' and as nice as possible for as long as possible. Nor are all citizens of California 'out of touch' with reality....on the contrary, we realize that gas is a finite resource and we better find alternate sources of energy before its gone.

It was interesting to see the poll about how long most prius owners keep their cars. The majority of us keep them until they drop! I certainly did, the engine was literally falling out of my car.

    Good luck to you!

At least around here all new cars are delivered washed and clean. No dealer would consider delivering a dirty car and no one would accept delivery of a dirty car. It seems to me that the car was actually delivered clean but that the owner failed to inspect it. That's his problem, not the dealer's.

Did you read the post? Before the vehicle was delivered (physically delivered -- someone drove it to their house), it went through rain and had gotten dirty. No paperwork was signed, it was still under posession of the dealership so, as you said, why should they have accepted a dirty car?

First, Sho-Bud, mchinta, Rancid13, keqmoore, Wynder, thanks for your kind words and good wishes!

No, the dealer representative and I took the new Prius (that started out clean but got dirty on the way to my house because of the rain, jamarimutt) to the car wash together before I signed anything, so the car was still in the dealership's possession. After it was washed, we went back to my house, where I signed the paperwork and paid.

As to the antenna question, do you guys really take the antenna off, before running the Prius through the car wash? Is this out of abundance of caution, or did you ever lose it in the wash?

I never take my antenna off in the car wash.
I don't have a Prius yet, but it's the same type of rubber 'thing'.
