For the purposes of clarification, consider the following chart:

Simply because a phone has "OBEX" (aka Generic Object Exchange), doesn't mean you can do anything with it. For example, my V710 technically has OBEX but they only way to transfer anything via BT is to use a software program called MPT (now known as Motorola Phone Tools).

The E815 and V3c also have "OBEX"; the E815 has the Synchronization Profile while the V3c has the Synchronization Profile and FTP. Neither, however has the Object Push Profile, the requisite profile for phonebook transfers to the Prius.

The 6256i is the only VZW phone (non-PDA) that has the full OBEX stack. That includes Object Push which allows PB transfers to the Prius.

In addition, I believe they might have stuck the Synch profile in a later software update for the V710 which is why the phone is able to work perfectly with certain BMW models.

So does that mean that the Nokia guy didn't know what he was talking about when he said that the 6256i would not work with the Prius?

And, are you saying that if I get a Motorola E815, I can still download my address book to it via iSync-- and then use my Mac laptop to transfer the address book into the Prius?

Thanks in advance for your reply, tag.

Don't know whether or not you've seen the following page but according to Apple, the E815 is iSync compatible and, purportedly, allows Bluetooth and USB syncing of the address book and calendar:

However, according to the following thread on HoFo, you will have to hack the phone to enable OBEX:

    a good source is www.evdoinfo.com

EVDO (Evolution Data Optimised) is the high speed internet access protocol used by Verizon that uses the cellphone tower network.

great info on different aircards (PCMCIA cards interfaced to a laptop to connect to EVDO) and a few selected handsets that might interest some here.

Actually there is no need to enable OBEX to sync the E815 with the Mac. It will work with an E815 right out of the box with OS X 10.4.2 or higher. OBEX is useful, though, because you can do file transfers (pictures, ringtones).

But I'm unable to get the Mac to pair and push the contacts to the Prius. If anyone has a solution I'd love to hear it.

I have an e815 and feel the phone is great. I've performed the hacks to enable OBEX and file transfer. HOWEVER, I still cannot transfer any phonebook entries to the Prius. You initiate the transfer on the Prius and it waits for entires to be pushed from the phone. There is no "Send Contact" command in any of the phone menus. I can, however, synchronize the phonebook to my laptop with Motorola Phone Tools. This is a great program and allows you to load mp3, pictures, ringtones, ect., directly from your laptop to the e815 (seem hack procedure reuqired to make all this work).

I've tried to upload the phone book from my laptop via bluetooth to my 2006 without success. There is a well documented procedure on how to this in a thread in the file library area of this site. I don't believe it works for the 2006. But I haven't given up yet.
