This may still be an aftermarket kit but it appears genuine Toyota. Again was just wondering.

 

The auction description states that the kits are drop shipped from an authorized Toyota dealer, so it might be genuine Toyota parts.

 

My Toyota dealer has these fog light kits for several Toyota's........they come with a Toyota warranty but they arnt genuine Toyota parts. Best thing u can do is ask seller if the fog lights have "toyota" on them.

 

Per instruction, i have attach the wire to the brown cable. This is allowing the fog lights to be on only when the main headlights are on. Anyone know what other wire I can attach to to make the fog lights become DRL ( on regardless of main headlight)?

 

Do you still want the switch to work? If not, you could just run the fogs directly off of the tap in the fuse box (red wire) without the switch. If you still want the switch, replace the brown wire with either a wire coming from that tap in the fuse box or another wire in the dash that is energized when in READY mode. I used a wire from my HeadUnit for this. There are many wires in the dash area though you could use.

 

As spiderman said.....u need to tap the wire that u have going to the brown wire to another power source. If u want them on when in ready mode, just look for a wire that is hot when in ready & make ur tap.

 

I would like to tell everyone that I have installed the fog lights and am happy with them. The quality looks good and they work well. The only thing I wish that was included with the kit would be a relay to turn off fog lights when the high beams are turned on. I have seen where several other people want this too. I added one to my install with no problems, here is the steps how I did it.

I got a SPDT relay, A common part at most auto parts stores.

1. I hooked terminal #85 from the relay to a ground point on the car.

2. I hooked terminal #86 from the relay to the purple wire on the driver’s side high beam headlight.

3. I hooked terminal #30 from the relay to the fuse box using the inline fuse that came with the fog light (that I cut off) kit as instructions states in step 6.12 in the color install instructions. Do not hook the red wire from the fog lights kit here.

4. I hooked terminal #87a from the relay to the red wire going to the fog light kit where I cut off the inline fuse. 87a is the normally closed contact so you will have power to the fog lights when the high beams are off. When you turn on the high beams it will activate this relay and open the contact and drop power to the fog lights.

I hope that this helps everyone add a relay to automatically turn off the fog lights when the high beams are turned on.

I wanted to make a wiring digram of the extra relay to turn off the fog lights automattically when the high beams are on.
I got a SPDT relay, A common part at most auto parts stores.

If you have already hooked up everything to work the way the instruction kit originally stated, (fog lights come on with the high beams) and all is working as it should. Then follow these steps: ​

1.Take the red wire from the fog light kit that hooks to the fuse box, unplug it from the cars fuse box and connect it to terminal #87a on the new relay.

2. Connect terminal #30 from the new relay to the fuse box where you removed the red wire in step one above.

3. Connect terminal #85 from the new relay to a ground point on the car.

4. Connect terminal #86 from the new relay to the purple wire on the driver’s side high beam headlight.

The push button switch on the dash will still work correctly as it did before with the difference being that the fog lights will not be on when the high beams are on.

With the fog light switch on it will still show the fog lights to be on when the high beams are on but they will not be on. When you turn off the high beams back to low beams the fog lights will turn on again if the fog light switch is on.

Hi all, I need help with the fog light install on my 2010 Prius . I finished the install this afternoon and the fog lights don't come on but did not have time to trouble shoot today. While driving home the sun set and when I turned on my headlights all instrument lighting went off except the 'ECO Mode', 'Ready', and the headlight symbol. I have a feeling it's the brown wire, red wire connection. any ideas? I'll be working on it tomorrow. thanks for any help / advice.

 

Sounds like 2 different problems.

First problem, the wiretap into the brown wire has to make a good electrical contact. Ppl have had to use pliers to make sure they get enough force on the metal piece that cuts into the insulation around the brown wire. Check that connection first to troubleshoot your problem about the fog lights not coming on.

Second, you might have blown a fuse to your instrument panel lights. Check your fuse panel by the driver's kick panel for a blown fuse.

Then if you find a blown fuse, make sure you connected everything to the correct wires. There is another brown wire with a stripe, I think down there, so make sure you didn't tap into that.

 

Do they have a kit for the 2011 Prius? Or is the 2010 kit compatible? Also, does the kit come w/ a switch that you can place inside next to the button for the solar panel air ventilation?

 

Also, what type of bulb doe this fog lamp have? Halogen?

 

The 2010 and 2011 Prius is the same. The kit went in fine in our 2011. Yes, the kit comes with a switch, as long as you have an open/blank spot in your left lower dash, you can put the switch in.

H11, same as the low beam bulbs. I suggest you look through the instructions. Everything is there.

Most of the time, the problem is at the tap into the brown wire. Make sure the wire tap is actually piercing the brown wire's insulation. Best way to do that is to use a pair of pliers to press down hard on the metal piece on the wire tap that cuts through the wire insulation.

You need to buy a lower bumper grill to install OEM foglights in the 2012 because that's where they are mounted in the level 5 trim. I believe there is a thread discussing such an installation.

 

Car audio/electronics (alarm) shop. Sorry, did it myself, don't know how much.
