Many years ago I met a friend who owns a small used car business. He told me he typically buy a used car in auction for $8000, add $3000 margin at least, and sell it for $11000 to $13000. Maybe he did not tell me the true story, but I can't imagine a dealer will add only 10% margin, with all the rental cost, employee salary, capital investment and market risks, not to mention the tax on profit... The number simply does not add up here... Sorry.
Click the thumnails I put in OP and open in new window to view. Tell me what you think I should be asking for this extra clean car for a retail customer.
Lefat1, Sorry, no offense. I am not even in the market for another Prius. The reason for my last reply was because I just read your previous post, where you said dealer will offer you $18725 for trade in. 2008 Touring Package 6 For Sale | PriusChat My instinct tells me that's almost impossible even with all the nice mod you have, unless it is part of the whole deal which you need to buy one of their high priced car... That's the point of my last reply. $18000 is too high a price for any dealer to purchase and sell it for profit. As a matter of fact, I just did some search on autotrader.com with keywords "Touring", 2008, and mileage less than 75K, sort by high miles: Find Your Car: Toyota Prius Listings Near New York, NY 10025 - AutoTrader.com Looks like price range between $15K to $19K, and most sellers are dealers. Consider your mods (not sure how much they cost you and worth to new owners), $19K is on high end, but not too much out of line to be fair, especially if it is negotiable.
Thanks for the info. I actually looked at several of the models you searched, and found out most, if not all are not touring models. The wheel covers and rear spoiler are from the base model. The blue one, like I have, looks to be a repaint, and a lighter shade of blue. I also doubt they have the package 6 options.
Yes, it's still avaiable. Haven't put much effort into selling as my other deal hasn't come thru. Many offers in the $15-$16k range tho. I didn't know heated seats were ever an option on Prius.
