Ford just announced the pricing for the plug-in Cmax. I built a Cmax hybrid then a comparably equipped Cmax plug-in and the price was about $6000 dollars more for the plug-in. I am also assuming the Cmax has a 8kWh battery based on its anticipated range and the amount of the $3750 federal tax credit. That works out to about $750 per kWh as the cost of the battery for the Cmax. So if the Fusion Energi is supposed to go around 20 miles on its battery, maybe its battery will need to be around 10kWh to get the same range from its useable capacity for the heavier Fusion? That would put the Fusion hybrid vs. plug-in premium at around $7500. The federal tax credit should take a chunk out of that. And if you live in one of those states that offers incentives as well, between the two it might make the plug-in premium almost "free."
If your numbers are correct.. then for a similar equipped Energi.. I would end up paying nearly $45K before tax credit... wow...
I love the looks of the 2013 Fusion, it looks like a more expensive brand. But if I'm going to buy a high tech car, I'd rather buy the Prius because I feel like Toyota has so much more experience in getting things right and thinking about the small details. Sure the EV range is less on the Prius PHV but that's negligible for my driving. That said if the new Fusion plugin turns out to be very successful it may be my next vehicle in 3-5 years. For now I await my PHV Prius order...
c-max hybrid SEL 28,200 - c-max energi 32950 which is a difference of $4,750 for similarly equiped models fusion hybrid SE 27,200 c-max hybrid SE 25,200 That would indicate fusion energi at $34,950 before tax credit if it has about the same level of standard equimpent as the c-max.
Nope - they're saying the energi will start in the $29k's . . . . . and they're NOT saying that this price is after any Fed/State Credit/rebates. Whoah.
that price is unrealistic. there is always a "trim mix" and the SE i am guessing is the lower trim and will be hard to find. expect to pay $4,000 more
C-Max Energi would come out to $29,999 includes fed tax credit and delivery fee. Prius PHV would come out few hundred dollar more but Toyota is doing $2k to $3.5k cash bonus with 0% APR promotion. I don't know about the Fusion Energi price. I would compare the price of Fusion hybrid vs. C-Max hybrid to get some idea.
I just don't see the FFE coming in with all that I want (Driver's Tech, moonroof, navi, etc..) coming in under $40K before any tax incentives.. Historically (Prius) the PHV upgrade is at least 6 - 7K more. The FFH that I am currently considering is coming in around 32-34K. I don't see how they could afford to have the Energi come in (with all that I want) under 40K... Any idea when the actual prices are coming out?
I don't have the interest to do the work, but the PHV upgrade for the Prius is less than that. It just has more options as standard than the base Prius. The Fusion Energi base may have the extras you want standard already in the price.
