EV Miles estimate after Full Charge LOW

I've done this "test" a few times.. but when I first got my car, I never drove with AC or Fan to get more EV range. When it started to heat up, I drove home with AC and/or on the whole way. The first time I varied the fan speed and turned off the AC when the cabin was cool enough. I then tested it by just leaving it on the whole way. My commute home is 13 miles, slightly uphill, with lots of traffic lights. It normally takes me about 35 minutes to get home.

I estimate that for my commute, using AC/Fan versus NOT using it, I lose about 1 mile +/- 0.5 miles.. its somewhat variable because of the many traffic lights I encounter. But I imagine the longer your commute time, the more impact the AC/Fan will have on your EV range.

When I go home now, if its warm enough to even think about using AC, I just use it (I'm thinking of the battery too). Usually just 1 or 2 bars on the Fan level (the higher the fan speed, the more electricity it will take too). Oh, also, this was all in Eco mode, which is supposed to be easier on the AC usage.

The system is working fine. But the data it has to estimate range with is so limited, the value gives the appearance of jumping.

That is fine too. Looking close, you'll notice the interior of the indicator changes from solid to a series of stacked bars. That makes it easier to see the level when it's near or at depletion.

Worry less and just drive. The car is fine.

Everyone needs to remember that the EV range is an ESTIMATE. The estimate is based on certain parameters and will change based on how you are driving (ie how fast/slow), as well as road conditions. I live in Ithaca NY where every commute involves a rather large hill. I just picked up my car yesterday but I know I will begin seeing my EV range drop once I have driven it more.

 

the other day, i unplugged before it had finished charging. when i started, it said 15.5 miles. as i backed into the street, it jumped to 15.9. then as i started down the street, it dropped to 15.4. never had that happen before, but i think it might have been because the battery was almost full when i unplugged.

 

Something interesting is happening with my EV level. When I charged my pip at Consumers Electric (Chargepoint) my EV level was usually at .6 or 1.0. when I charged up my EV level would be at 10.6. Now that I'm charging at my apartment I'm charging my pip when it's got an EV level of about 5.0. When it's fully charged my level is at 11.8! go figure!

 

that is strange, i also am having an odd thing. i was upto 16.2 ev range estimate and then, when i decided not to plug in the other day to see what i could get for hv mpg's, my ev estimate is down to 14.9 the last two days. i'm still driving 17 miles ev with the a/c on tho.

 

I never go into HV. all of my trips are less than 11 miles between charges. never use A/C either ICE never kicks in also........ummm....well......almost never.....went to Electric Auto Association seminar and used HV
