Looks like I may be in the market for another Prius. I can't stand these expensive fill ups on the rentals. Sitting at a alight...he never stopped, sideswiped the car behind me...then took a hard left into me. Knocked me into the center lane. His remarks; "I must have blacked out." His insurance is covering it all, but what a huge inconvenience. Now what to buy...as I'll only get about $12k for my 2008 with 9.5K miles. I miss my 'Brid....
It's hard to tell... Did all the airbags deploy? Is the frame bent? If either of those didn't happen you may have a chance at saving her...
Does not look bad enough for total,But??? Would you not purchase another? Maybe a plug -in or a Prius C. H
I hate to see that happen to anyone's vehicle. It is even more sad when it is a Prius for some reason. 12K for a '08 sounds kind of low to me for a total. I would expect at least 15K, but I don't know how much similar Pri's like yours are selling for in your area. As other's have said here, bummer! Ron (dorunron)
Dont let teh insurance's offer be their last - they probably whipped out a quote based on book price. Find some marketable cars with the same mileage/condition/options and bring it to them. Your extremely low mileage counts for something.they are probably assuming 60k in their calculations.
tell em your neck hurts. that'll scare em into trying to make you happy so you don't file a medical claim. i did that when some @$$ clown hit my ex's car when i was driving it. they had a check to us w/in 2 weeks. but dontcha know she still bitched at me like it was my fault the moron hit her car...
That offer is ridiculous, the insurance co is probably low balling. My grandfather's 05 Corolla with 75k miles was recently totaled and that settlement was almost $13k. The insurance company even gave us a list of comparable used vehicles for sale at local dealers. Go hunt down some comparable vehicles, even if you need to look at neighboring states, and show the insurance co how much dealers are asking. That should be the amount you'll get.
As other's have said, check prices for Pri similar to yours in your area. My past experience with a car that was totalled (flood) taught me that the insurance companies normally figure the total value by locating cars similar to yours in surrounding areas that are for sale, and then determine the price based on what those cars were selling for. Again, 12K sounds low to me. I also agree with 69shovlhed | PriusChat, tell em you are hurt. You may be Ok now, but later on in life you might find out things are different and stemmed from that accident. IMHO, you should at least go to a doctor and have yourself checked out. Neck and spine injuries do occur in accident's, and sometimes they don't manifest themselves until years later. A quick google search for 2008 Pri reveals this. 2008 Toyota Prius Price Range - Used & New - Motor Trend Magazine Also, Edmunds.com has a appraisal tool on their website. 2008 Toyota Prius Bottom line, don't let the insurance company rip you off. Show them this: Find Your Car: Toyota Prius Listings Near Arlington Heights, IL 60004 - AutoTrader.com This should be very strong argument, based on real world market data. Maybe you can input more criteria on features, and give them average price on market. Book value does not count in Prius' case. Good luck and let us know the result. Allen
I got a great deal on my '08 HZ package for $13,994 and it had 72k miles on it. If it were totaled today, I would need at least $15k to replace it. Your insurance company must be low balling.
Thanks for the replies. I had 98,400 miles and it had been repaired from two other rear end accidents (not my fault either). I hate the DC commute. I got $14,500. Settlement for my pain, missed work and suffering to come in time. Not rushing that, got more PT on Friday. Just got back from picking up a gorgeous Metallic grey 2012 Prius package 3 with a moon roof. Pics to follow. get to transfer my tags over so "DUALPWR" is back!!!!! I missed my 'Brid! But this car really feels like I'm home again. So much new electronics to learn..holy crap. Passed on the HUD, cruise control radar, "pleather seats" and auto park functionality of the 4 and 5. We like it!!! Now for a quick question...can I hack the reverse beep off in this car like I did in my 2008? Anyone need some like new carpet floormats, mudflaps, trim rings, weather tech floormats, etc, all from the 2008 Prius? I'll unload it all at a great price. PM me.
I'll get some pictures and run some numbers. Since the stuff is pretty big and bulky, I don't have any idea what shipping wold cost.
