I was thinking to purchase the OEM cargo cover for my Prius C-1 but for my surprise I have to change the cargo sides also as they are different form and material.
yeah... it's a cheap fabric instead of the plastic panels.. it's one of the reasons why i went for the package 2 instead... that and the 40/60 split.. and the center arm rest.
That's interesting. I knew The Prius c 1, had the solid folding seatback...no 40/60 split, but was unaware it was built so you additionally couldn't add a cargo cover, without changing the sides. I can't believe the difference in either case would REALLY increase the cost in any dramatic way. I mean, how much more expensive is it on an assembly line, to put in one side panel vs. another? We are talking about plastic pieces here in either case. I also can't imagine the savings between the spartan single piece back seat vs. The 60/40 split is really all that much. To the OP. Can you order the side pieces? How much does it cost to upgrade so you can get a Cargo Cover? I know Toyota is trying to cut corners to keep a low advertiseable entry price point, but making the Prius c 1, so spartan that you cannont even get a cargo cover seems a little too drastic IMO.
so.. the marketing guys apparently designed the packages to be different? with features taken away that are obviously not worth how much lower the price tag is compared to the lower packages... lol... (ok.. that's totally not true.. but that's kinda funny to think about..) but yes... someone.. somewhere... pretty much did that.. and i doubt it was the marketing department... i'd venture to guess it was a business guy.
Why would they not want the consumer to be able to easily add a cargo cover? It's even more profitable to sell as an add on aftermarket part than include it in a higher trim!
In Canada, they don't even sell the 1. The cheapest is the 2. My dad's got a Lexus hybrid and the cargo cover cost him 600$. So for this, and the 60/40 seats, cruise, better sound system, electric mirrors, nicer, more comfortable seats, winter mats, what else? I'm surprised americans would want to save 1000 bucks, the bigger packages are clearly for people who have the means to get better gear and pay for it, but between the 1 and the 2, I figure the choice is simple. I wonder why they made that choice to offer it in the states, not in Canada. Something about safety regulations, I figure. We have daylights and all sorts of other rules.
Hey can you send me pictures of the panels? I have never seen a C1 and the pictures above are not loading. I would possibly consider trading panels and a cargo cover. I don't use the cover and the mounts for it are therefore pointless.
Don't mean to hijack, but I have a Prius One and it didn't come with cargo cover either. I did see the big notches for the base unit so I assumed I could buy one after-market. Just finished a bid on one on ebay, there may be some issues that need to get resolved, but that is irrelevant here, but I just realized that I didn't double check if there were notches to hold the retractable portion in place! I am now itching to run to the parking garage to double check. Anyway, I heard the tounneau covers retail at around 300 dollars, but I noticed that when you add a cargo cover on to say a base RAV4, it only costs 90 dollars! Anyone have any idea the huge discrepancy in price?
I took mine out today as soon as I realized it was possible. I guess I haven't found good use for it. On a side note, I really wanted to buy a one but the dealership told me (err lied) that the one is only sold through fleet. I knew it was a lie at the time but I couldn't find any at other dealerships and didn't care enough. I ended up buying it for less than invoice (assuming the invoice sheet they showed me was true) so it's not a big deal.
