I got my Blizzard Pearl Prius V5 without the ATP...I was tempted for the Laser Cruise Control which I loved on my Avalon Limited but I just couldn't justify the additional cost.

Same here and I don't miss the ATP at all.

Many (maybe all) of my pre Prius cars, between 1981 and 2008, had moonroof/sunroof and I never used them. I can't remember the last time I used one - 1983 maybe? I don't dislike that feature but don't want to have to pay for something I'll never use.

We're retired and don't commute or drive in rush hour traffic much. I really don't see the need for radar cruise control. We do a fair bit of long distance highway driving cruising but the highways out west are, for the most part, much less crowded than back East or on the West coast so radar wouldn't get used much anyway.

I would have liked a larger display but it only took a few minutes to get used to the smaller one. I can live with that.

Toyota doesn't use laser any more. They're all radar-based on the Prius, Avalon and Sienna (the last two had Laser Cruise Control). It also brings the Pre-Collision System with the DRCC.

New member, just bought ours today. We struggled a lot with the ATP. It is definitely overpriced. We just basically realized that driving this car for the next few years without it we would kick ourselves every time we got in the car for cheaping out so we went with it. YMMV

I am in this boat as we speak. I am dealing with the dealership while they locate a a Blizzard Pearl v 5 with ATP but they tell me there are none to be found here in the Midwest or the other dealerships won't trade.

I also don't want to kick myself for the next 10 years for not buying the ATP. However, 1 year less of payments would be nice.

    Decisions, decisions.

Help me out, what should I do?

What part of the ATP is important to you? And is the answer to the question worth $5k to you? I wanted the moonroof and upgraded stereo but that wasn't worth the cost to me so I opted to go without. W

My local dealer here in Decatur aquired my car WITH the ATP so I guess I'm getting the ATP. That was easy. I'll be picking it up in the next day or two.

IMHO, if you have the money and can afford the ATP, have all the time in the world to learn the technology that comes with it (in order to get the biggest bang for the buck), if the moon roof is an absolute must-have on your list (ATP is the only way you can get it) ..then I'd say...go for it!

Per me, I'm getting the Prius v Five without the ATP. Here's why - If I got the ATP (appx $37k out of the door), I'd be losing the trade-off over lesser fuel economy offered by other crossovers like 2012 CR-V and 2013 Mazda CX-5 (moon-roof / panaromic offered @ apprx $ 28K OTD). You buy a Prius (IMO) for 2 reasons:

    - Environment

    - Fuel Cost Savings over the life of the vehicle

With the ATP, you never gain the cost savings advantage - which to me was the biggest buying decision apart from the space. My wife wanted the space and luxury interiors, I'm an environment lover and a die-hard cost saver. Prius v Five fit the bill for me. I'd be recovering the extra $3K (31K - 28K) in less than 4 years through fuel savings.

    Hope this helps!

I should have headed right to a shrink to figure out why I bought this car with the 37K sticker and cheap a plastic steering wheel. However the radar cruise "exceeded" my expectations, I drive 40K /yr. And a nice leather cover from Priuschat fixed the steering wheel.
Only reason I didn't get the new Camry Hybrid instead (only 1 mpg diff) was that no radar cruise option. And now I see that the soon to arrive Lexus ES 300h (built on new Camry chassis) will have it all.
Anyone want to buy a like new V with tech pack ?

Does the HDD Nav system with Entune have the multimedia voice commands? While browsing the Entune page on Toyota's site, I noticed that they specifically call out the ability to say "Play <artist> <album or song>" on the regular, non-HDD unit. Listening to music in my car and being able to quickly find the song I want is a pretty big deal for me. I ordered the ATP on my v, but I'll be somewhat bummed if the lower end unit has better multimedia features.

Mine is through the processing center in the US and should ship to my dealer this week or next! It is a race to see who shows up first: my baby* or my Prius. lol

    * She's due 3 weeks from today

I haven't tried it on my wife's 2012 Prius hatchback, but on my V w/ATP, I could only use the voice command for that function when I turned bluetooth off and plugged my iphone 4 into the USB port, using it like an ipod. It wouldn't work plugged in and with bluetooth on.

Interesting, I'll have to give that a try.

I've had my v w/ ATP for 5 days now.
Premium HDD Navigation w/ Entune and JBL: not impressed with the lack of voice commands. The screen is crisp, but for something I use "at a glance", the add'l resolution is hard to appreciate. I'm having a hard time getting my iPhone 4 connected to the Entune via USB (no tethering plan on my phone, so I have to use USB.) It keeps saying I my bluetooth isn't connected correctly. Haven't really used the XM functions or the nav for a trip, so the jury is still out on that.
JBL Greenedge: Sounds great. Very happy with the sound quality.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control: Works awesome, very happy to have this feature.
Pre-collision system: Haven't had to use it, thankfully.
Advanced Parking Guidance System: I don't know if the turn lines show up on the non-ATP, but I find it quite handy for parking. The auto-park feature seems to struggle unless you have very good contrast between the pavement and lines. I don't know that I'd miss it if I didn't have it.
Panoramic View Moonroof: LOVE IT! The car feels so airy and pleasant with the light coming in from above. Really nice for the back seat passengers.

Is it worth $5k? Well, my wife is happy we got it, so... yes.

I am wrestling with the same problem. My husband just got a Gen 3 last month and now we are looking at a V for me to replace my Navigator. He got the IV so he could get the solar roof that vents itself. He got the upgraded Nav, ground effects, and the fancy wheels but he wants me to consider the cheaper V five version. Frankly I want the sunroof and the Ugraded Nav but not the rest. I am torn :(

Aside from price, we decided to go without the moonroof because we wanted the option of converting the car to charge using solar power :) , which, would cover the roof.

Just coming across this post as I am struggling with this. I really like the v, and am really frustrated at the lack of choices for options. All I really care about is the HDD nav, and MAYBE the jbl green edge speakers, though I can always add good speakers after, but in order to do that, I have to jump fro a 3 to a 5 plus add a 5k nav package. Very lame Toyota. Very lame. I see this convo ended a while. Does anyone have any comments on the 13 model - not sure if the regular and HDD navs have changed this year.
