I just came back from a jaunt through Boston and the metro area. I had to floor it several times trying to enter highway traffic. Came back home at 70 to 75 MPH. The car returned 46-47 MPG most of the time- a little over 48 MPG by the time I pulled into my driveway. This is the worst I have seen so far for a trip of any substantial length. As the car is rated for 46 MPG highway, I consider this superlative.
Worst i've seen after 5 days with the PC is 18.9km/L (44mpg) but it was a short 9km errand run and was a short sprint @65-70mph (My dad's house is next to a 4 lane freeway). Temperature here is always between 31-32C (87-89F) and the Air-conditioning is always on Auto @ 25C (77F). I still see it as OK as i'm only using half a liter of petrol and i can go, buy my stuff, get back home in less than 20 minutes. I figured total cost of that particular trip is half liter or USD0.25 (Petrol here is USD0.59 per liter / USD2.06 per gallon). I have also seen 99.9KM/L for about 1.2km (nearby shop, the car was on EV all the way, and yes, I am too lazy to walk).
Isn't it pretty amazing how hard you have to try to get below 40mpg in the Prius? Even the GenII would rarely go below 40mpg over the course of a full tank. What do the TDi boys have to say now?
40mpg = 17KM/L , and even if I floor it hard, I can't even see it drop to 18KM/L as long as the trip is over 5km.. hahahaha
39.6 Was my worst tank. Besides that I've been averaging in the mid to high 40's, which seems a bit low to me... According to fuelly, this is what everything has looked like for me and my precious. #DateMilesGal.MPGPriceCity 10 6/30/12 419.0 9.04 46.4 3.699 65% 9 6/16/12 406.0 8.64 47.0 3.859 65% 8 6/4/12 398.0 8.62 46.2 4.159 60% 7 5/29/12 447.0 9.30 48.1 4.199 55% 6 5/19/12 467.0 10.00 46.7 4.499 50% 5 5/9/12 430.0 9.03 47.6 4.099 60% 4 4/28/12 418.0 8.76 47.7 3.999 60% 3 4/22/12 296.0 7.48 39.6 4.099 45% 2 4/20/12 339.0 6.00 56.5 4.169 70% 1 4/12/12 394.0 8.59 45.9 4.159 55%
did a 36km run trying to test the top speed of the PC. Manged 192kph (115mph) before I chickened out yet still it gives me a reading of 20.6KM/L (48.5mpg) I was doing lowest 120kph, mostly 140 ish and topped 192 for about a few second and 160 a few minutes over like 20km of clear freeways. (I know it's wrong and dangerous, just wanted to see if the C can perform). I don't see much difference between doing a constant 100kph (21-22km/L (50-51mpg)) and sprinting around (19-20KM/L ( 47-48mpg)) Or is the meter reading wrong?
I got 35.5mpg on the 15mile drive home from work. 104* outside and using a/c the drive and uphill the whole way.
I was parked on the street and went to back into the driveway. As soon as the car was in READY mode the ICE switched on. I backed into the driveway and turned off the car and my readout showed Time 0, Miles 0, MPG 3 3 mpg not really applicable to this thread I guess, but mpg can be really LOW sometimes, and the shorter the trip the lower the mpg per trip can get.
