2010 Toyota Prius III with Yokohama Avid S33 tires (38 psi front 36 psi rear, probably should have been 4 psi higher)
48 mpg over +400 miles as estimated by the Prius MFD
44 mpg over +400 miles as calculated at the pump using 10% ethanol 87 octane gasoline
Road = Illinois and Ohio's I-70 (eastbound), speed limit 70 mph, raining/road surface wet 100% of the time.
90 mph will get you pulled over by a state trooper.

comment: the Prius drives and handles very smoothly @80 mph, the Yokohama's provides very good traction.

95 mph in the mountains recently, very stable.

For people who experience some instability at > highway speeds, even with the stock 15" tires, I'd suggest getting the alignment checked.

 

While the storm system that I was driving through was moving eastward in the same direction I was going -- the storm system wasn't moving very fast so I didn't noticing any tailwind.

 

Mine did 95 without any issue.

 

80's multiple times on an expressway in open areas, 90 once no issues other than big drop in mpg.

 

94 mph, and it was Scarey as Hell !!

I was doing 64 on the freeway, mashed that button and I was up to 81 in a few seconds! Wohooo!!! I think I saw the pick-up driver's jaw next to me drop to his lap.

The Prius is limited at 180km/h (112mph). At that speed, the speedometer shows 196kph (122mph). Glad the Police was not around that day...

 

My top was 94 going uphill. Felt fine

Last week on The Pickle Parkway (toll) near Austin Tex.(speed limit 80), I had the road to myself and easily got up to 100mph (light wind, 86 degrees F, tires 36psi). Car handled beautifully, but I got "handcuff fever" and chickened out, returned to 80mph.

 

108.....on 17's... smooth as silk. Felt like it could do more. Very surprising...like most features on this car. Makes me love it even more.

 

I have an app on my phone that uses GPS to determine speed. I topped out my 06' Prius at (the speedometer in the car said 109) but my GPS device said 107mph and stayed at that speed for several miles with my foot all the way down to the floor. My current MPG meter on the Energy Monitor jumped from 22-34mpg, then my battery started to drop and I let off. Rode smooth, I have good tires, and the fact that the Prius is so aerodynamically stable helps a lot.

In my old 01' Prius, it topped out at 101mph as stated by my speedometer, but realistically, I think it was about 99mph when it stopped accelerating. Drove about 5-6 miles at top speed (flat roads in Illinois with no hills or curves) and then the battery dropped to the point where it wasn't assisting anymore, my Energy Monitor showed that the engine was powering the wheels, while sending power to the electric motor, which was also helping power the wheels, but the battery was just on stand-by, then the speed started to drop and it held steady at around 97mph (really about 95mph) but occasionally, it would take a second and it would pump some juice into it. Didn't check to see what MPG was at that speed though.

The Gen.III Prius, Brad and I owned one for just over a year before he got the Volt, and I topped it out religiously. 116mph as read by the speedometer, but I think it was more like 113mph. And no matter what the battery level was at, it held the speed and didn't drop unless you went up a small hill.

and last but not least, the 2010 Prius top speed video. & for some odd reason, it didn't hit 116mph like it usually did. Maybe because I was going up a hill?

Also, keep all your negitive comments to yourselves. In all the videos, I made sure to keep people and other drivers out of harms way. I did these on un-populated roads. Never the less, I know it's still dumb, so save your breath.

 

My Gen II (Picking up the new Gen III tomorrow) Normal highway speed of between 75 and 85 for my daily commute feels the same as 55 for handling but my MPG drops from 47 to 42. The fastest I have had it was on my wedding day (yes, I was late) and that was 118 MPH on interstate 90 (I-90 or for the western NY folks “the 90”) I was still gaining speed but had to slow down for a Canadian driver in the left lane that seemed to think that 70 in the passing lane made it ok to hold up traffic for 14 miles before he finally understood the left lane is a passing lane. (This is normal of our northern friends on the 90) It handled great at that speed, didn’t sway, bounce, or drift and had OEM suspension at that time. The fastest I have had a gen III so far was 75 mph during the test drive.
