I'm getting the feeling PiP owners' average age is higher than that of Caddy owners.
For example, anyone here younger than 55?

I am 39. I was ready to buy a Plug In Prius when I was 37 but Toyota wasn't ready.

ewwww, those are fighting words. LOL Yup, I'm an old fart. 65, retired and loving the first Prius Plug-in sold in the Midwest. Now, tell me why do you ask this demographic question? Are you a young squirt? Do you feel insecure pulling the trigger on purchasing the Prius because of what someone else might say (or think)? Or do you feel totally secure and you just wanted to tell the world how intelligent you are by this purchase? Come on, details, details. We want details.

At 19 we bought a 2004 Gen 2 package PR2, for use when we visit Puerto Rico. At 24 I purchased a Gen 2 package 6 for full-time use in Texas. At 27 years of age I purchased a 2012 PHEV Prius Advance to replace my TX Gen 2. We still have the PR Gen 2 prius.

Interesting replies. I've bought 4 Prius models in the last 5 yrs. 2 for us, 1 for my 26 yr old daughter, and one replacement that got totaled from a relatively minor collision. I'm sort of hooked on the Prius brand for obvious reasons. It's good to hear that there are younger people out there buying these, but the replies here are not statistically unbiased - sample size is too small and there is bias selection. In general, it would be nice to know the buying age group for the leaf and volt too.

I doubt many in the 18-25 range are currently PiP owners.

I suspect there are not a large number in the 25-35 age range, either.

I could see the median age as probably somewhere around 45.

So I'd say, based on some factors like expense, wait time, comfort level with a car that's non-standard (and kind of nerdy), not concerned about associations - earned or not - with ideas like liberalism, tree-hugging, Hollywood, etc. half of the people who own PiPs are probably older than 45.

In other words, just speculation. But I bet it's pretty close. And of course, if anyone's really interested, they can always post a poll and find out. Of course, this would only be representative of PC PiP members which could skew the results a little.

A PiP is really not a necessity - at least in the Prius line up there are much less expensive options. So it stands to reason that for many, it's more of a "want" than a "need".

For me, it'll be motivation to get a tax return completed long before Apr. 15. LOL

    Here are some articles.
    Leaf buyers (dated 2010):
Just Who Is A Typical 2011 Nissan Leaf Buyer? We Find Out
According to Nissan, the average 2011 Nissan Leaf owner is a young Baby Boomer, aged around 45 years old.

With an average income of $125,000 a year, the average Leaf owner has owns his or her home and have garage space for the Leaf’s charger. Educated to at least college level, they drive less than 50 miles per day and are more than happy to deal with plugging in the Leaf in their garages.

Regardless of age, PIP owners buy for many reasons. We enjoy not sending as much of our money to the Middle East, think the technology is very interesting and get a kick out of running around town silently, stealthy and comfortable. Instead of thinking we are all tree hugging liberals, think deeper than that. Maybe we are mostly libertarians and fiscally conservative as well. Thanks for the $2500. tax credit.

59, plus my son, 36 bought one at the same time. The appeal isn't age-based
Might be more interesting to poll why...just saying.

As a baseline, you have to have a decent paying job or a decent income to be able to "afford" the higher up-front costs of the hybrids and electrics. This tends to happen to most people in their 30s and 40s more often than when they are in their 20s. Just a generalization in my opinion. If you are very cost conscious due to realities of a lower income, most likely, you'll be buying used cars or the ones under $15K. Again, this is my viewpoint based on very little data, but nevertheless, how I perceive the world at the moment.
