I live in Portland, Oregon and I'm doing some research for my boss who recently came across at 2006 model that had been converted to a PHEV. I have very little knowledge of plug-in conversions, and am a bit lost of where to start looking for information (that I can easily understand). I imagine some -- or maybe even most? -- conversions are done by handy DIYers (Main Page - EAA-PHEV), but are there also professionals who do it? How much should my boss expect to pay for the battery + installation? This also might be a bit of a stretch, but is there a website with a listing of people/companies that perform the conversion? Any information you can provide, specific or general, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hi ForeverL, I am in Vancouver, Wa. I have 2 PHEVs and an engineering degree. I would enjoy showing you my cars and discussing things. You can find more on my experiance in... First Enginer PHEV install in the Portland Or area, Gen2 | PriusChat First Enginer PHEV Installation in Portland Or Area | PriusChat There are no installers in Portland. Pacific EV in the Seattle area and 3prong in Berkley both do a good job. But if you are not doing it yourself, you really need an installer that is close to you. The problem is that most PHEV systems breakdown or need adjustments at some time. Thanks, Dan
Hi Dan, Thank you so much for replying, and sharing the threads to your PHEV installations! It's a shame that there aren't any installers in the Portland area, however I plan on reading about your experience so I can get a better idea of what the installation entails. I may be in touch if I come up with more specific questions, I hope you don't mind! Thank you, Lisa
Just want to let you know that we do have an experienced Enginer installer, Ryan at Portland, OR, who has installed a few dozens Enginer kits. More info is available at Installers Prius Plugin PHEV Conversion Kit with Lithium-Ion | Hybrid Plug In
Hello, I think Ryan was actually working for Paul at 3ProngPower in Berkley and he is now going to school in Corvallis. This is about 90 miles south of Portland. Ryan would be a good person to do an install. I do not know how much time or what tools he has but I am sure that he has the knowledge and experiance. Thanks, Dan Lander
