Hi All. Was hoping to get feedback from folks who have purchased the Bentley, Chilton, or Haynes manual. Some have said the Bentley is worth the price, others say junk, Chilton or Haynes sufficient. I recall reading someone saying pay for limited access to Toyota's manuals on-line, and saving the pages onto your computer for later reference. Any and all feedback will be appreciated.
Before we can say what is "sufficient", it would help to know what use you plan to make of the repair manual. If you are content with performing simple tasks like changing engine oil, filters, etc then any of the B, C, or H manuals should be adequate. If you are planning more complex work, or if you are trying to identify the likely cause of an obscure DTC, then the Toyota repair documentation may be quite useful to you.
Prius Technical Manual (NHW20) You can get a set of PDFs for your Prius at: 2004-2005: http://www.hybrid-synergy.eu/showthread.php?tid=412 or http://www.selidori.com/tech/prius/DOC/Tech2004/ 2006-2009: http://www.hybrid-synergy.eu/showthread.php?tid=407 or http://www.selidori.com/tech/prius/DOC/Tech2006/ And for those with a 2010+ http://www.selidori.com/tech/prius/DOC/Tech2010/ JeffD
Thanks for the replies, esp the link to the Technical Manual. Just planning to do routine maintenance (oil changes, brake pad/shoes, coolant, and transaxle fluid, belts). Maybe attempt bigger things if I think I can do it.
Well, the above links don't seem to work any more... A long time ago I put together a pretty nice version of the Gen 2 repair manual, for the $10 Toyota charge. Formatted and organized, with a full index (though I never did get around to getting the internal cross-links working.) I was reluctant to just give it to the world, since Toyota was making money off of it (albeit not very much), so I asked people to pay for the day's access to the Toyota tech site first, then come to me. Only about 3 people ever did so. And time has passed now, Toyota has moved on to new generations, etc etc. So here's the link, for everyone: http://www.gwzz.com/tmp/Prius-RepairManual-2005.pdf If this is of interest, please copy and keep it safe somewhere (preferably also publicly available.) thanks, Garry
I got the Chilton's manual before I had looked through Hobbit's site (Techno-Fandom's Home Page), the Luscious Garage site, the smattering of youtube videos, and this site. In my opinion, the book is not worth the price, is padded with much generic info, and has limited Prius only info. The online info, and the helpful people here, are much to be preferred. The manual does have a nice list of DTC's, but those can be searched or queried here.
