Avoiding 12v battery depletion

I couldn't access the PDF. From reading this thread, I don't mind buying a battery minder to keep the battery charged. Would you have to apply the cables to the battery itself in the hatch area and run the cable to an outlet in the garage? I'm having trouble picturing how the battery minder works. Couldn't find any info searching through the forum. The car will be stored in the garage for over 6 weeks.

 

Yes that is how it works. From the rear of the hatch I ran the cable over to the connector on the battery minder

My FJ has sat upwards of 7 weeks and the battery has remained perfect
