Is it possible to install Garmin maps on a Rosen GPS system? If so, could someone please point me to instructions or provide some guidance. Thanks.

I would love if this was the case too. Anyone know?

I can't speak to Rosen, but I hope you realize that Garmin doesn't do mapping/provide mapping data. For North America, Navteq supplies map data to them. They also supply mapping data to many other companies.

See Garmin International - Press Release, for example.

Who are the the copyright holders on the Rosen units?

So, I'm guessing navteq is who I should see if I can load onto the unit, but I'd say for it to work the same as my Nuvi the garmin software interface would probably have to be loaded too, right? I have no idea on the copyright.

The Rosen is a basically a Windows CE system.

There are a few websites devoted to hacking or upgrading GPS - look to them.

I'd be 95% sure there is a compiled version that can run on Rosen (800x480).

    Start with Google or gpspassion.com.

It will take time to research - but it should be no problem getting it running...

I'm guessing you already have the Rosen? For similar money and what I'm going to do is go with Kenwood. They have their new 2011 models coming out next month, but even currently you can get the 2010 models alot cheaper. The DNX-9960 is an amazing piece. Garmin maps, Parrot blue tooth, dual USB, 5V preouts for aftermarket equipment and the list goes on. The DNX-6960 is also a great piece and cheaper with a smaller screen and an actual volume knob. Something to look into. The new models will have all these features plus adding the ability to control Pandora on your smartphone as well as a built in HD Radio receiver.

Yeah, I ordered it mainly because it looks like the factory deck. I think it will work fine for our needs...I hate car navigation systems compared to our Garmin's, so not really worried about it. But, if I could put Garmin's software and maps on it, that would be even that much better...added bonus.

Both. Of course the Internet connection doesn't work...:)

    Seems to work well otherwise.

I wouldn't be too surprised if you can't get a WiFi WinCE driver (or it may be there), and run a USB WiFi stick. Them stream the Internet from your phone (iPhone etc support being an 'access point')....

Both would be great to do. My Android phone can be a Hot Spot. This would allow the Rosen unit to get on the net with the right driver.

I would also like to learn how to get the Garmin App and Maps on the Rosen unit.

Would this work on any Win CE based nav such as a Ottonavi?
