Hi everyone. I've read on this forum for quite some time now, and never posted. So I'm 22, graduated from nursing school, and will be working 60 miles each way commute from home. I will be making this trip 3 days a week, most nursing shifts are 12hrs. I currently drive my parents old sequoia which is absolutely HORRIBLE on gas...and living in southern california..gas prices are through the roof. I'm very interested in buying a new 2012 prius. I am completely clueless as to how this car is different from a "regular" car. How is the maintenance costs? Is it anymore than a regular car? I've heard the battery costs $6000 to replace. I really need a vehicle that gets good gas mileage. Also, I went a test drove one at the dealership, I feel like the sales guy didn't really fully answer my question and was just pressuring me to purchase. He was pressuring me into getting the package 3, which i know was a tad more pricey, but not out of my price range. What are the main differences between these two packages. This is my first big purchase on my own without my parents help, and I really want to make a good decision.
Hey there.. I am also from So.Cal Get the package 3. Actual selling price (not MSRP) on the P3 should be about $1000 more than the package 2. Main differences include navigation, back-up camera (you need this) and a few more things. I think these extra is worth the extra $1000 you will have to spend. Check out DCH Torrance Toyota for the best price. I know Dianne at Carson Toyota gives good prices too but she could not really beat the Torrance DCH toyota prices. Ask for David Martinez at Torrance Toyota (you can say you were referred by Eugene). I got my Prius from him. Your target price should be about $21700 (for a Prius 2) if you still want the package 2 (extra $200 for White color) Good luck
oh wow, is that $21,700 target for the package 3? That's the best price I've seen so far. I will be calling David Martinez
Is there a difference in prices between northern and southern California? Because my quick discussion with a sales guy in Burlingame (SF Bay Area) was 4K higher than $21,700 for a new package 3. (no extras).
Talked to him, and the package 3 was a little over $1000 more...still better than other dealers I've talked to
$6K?!!? That's totally wrong. See Failed traction (HV) battery, what to do? - Prius Wiki. Since you're in CA, the HV (big) battery is warranted for 10 years/150K miles. Take a look at the maintenance histories of the Priuses at Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity - Hybrid Electric Vehicles. Lifespan/Operating costs - Prius Wiki might also help. You also get Complimentary Maintenance Plan - Toyota Care "free" for the 1st 2 years/25K miles. Specials on New & Used Cars, Service, Parts & Financing in Sunnyvale, CA is currently openly advertising model 3 for $24,988.
Good luck Lena. What away to start life with a 2012 Prius. I got my first one at 60! Two months ago. I love it. I bought a Four, but the things I paid extra for (which I love) are not necessary.
Thanks!! I'm very excited to start this next chapter of my life. Will be going to the dealership tomorrow to pick up my 2012 package 3 in blizzard pearl! I am very excited
You will love it! I bought mine a month ago, got the model 3 because I wanted the better audio....the salesman went over how I would have iHeart radio, open table and movie ticket aps, but I dont think I do...I dont have the premium system. Mine was 27000.
I'm pretty sure you should have Entune on a 2012 model 3. Unless you don't have a phone capable of working with Entune.
