Interest in group buy for no-holes parking sensor

Here's what I heard back from Mario Del Signore (Proxel):

the software has been modified in order to have just a sound that gives the risk of contact and only when approaching so there is not sound when powering the system close the obstacle.
For the beeps coming on when going down hill, over road irregularities, and when braking. The only way to stop these false alarm is to use the switch and activate the system when approaching the curb.

I'd advise future buyers to just get the standard forward system (without the DAM option) and assume the use of the on/off switch will be required.

Anyone know of a source for Prius/Corolla on/off switches that fit the holes in the lower left dash

 

Thanks for the update dark-matter-doesnt. I'm also looking for a switch that will fit in the blank.

 

Others have managed to mount a 1/2" diameter switch into the blank-offs. The Proxel switch fits a 1/2"hole. I tried drilling out one with a 1/2" drill a few months ago and made a mess. It appears that I have to just barely drill the hole thru the front of the blank-off, then work from behind with a sharp knife/chisel to remove the reinforcing ribs. I may still try this.

It's a shame no one knows a source for Prius/Corolla dashboard switches (late model Corollas have the same hole size). A junk yard is a good alternative, but they're disappearing.

Also, the lock nut on the back of the Proxel switch split as i was mounting it in the lower dash panel. I'll have to glue the Proxel switch into the blank-off.

 

I moved the switch to a blank-off to the lower left of the steering wheel. I drilled a 1/2" starter hole in the blank-off with a wood drill, just barely going thru the front face. I then used a sharp, narrow wood chisel and a knife to gradually remove the center structure inside the blank-off. I tried inserting the switch, then trimmed more until I could press-fit the switch into the hole. No glue necessary!

Note that the switch must have wires ("pigtails") before doing this. The back of the switch is inaccessible once it's pressed into the blank-off.

I see in Tokyo many of the Gen III Prius taxis have little antennae-like poles... some retractable, some fixed... many with scars

 

I wish someone could identify a part number for the standard Toyota Prius parking sensor kit. Parking sensors should be standard equipment in the US like they are in Japan and South Korea.

Here are the parts for the front sonar. I'm not sure how you would tie these into the system and that this can be installed as a kit. The Front sonar is part of the Advance Technology Package and if I recall correctly these work directly with the front facing radar system. Just one of the sensors for the front radar system is $1,500! .
