I asked the service writer yesterday and he did not know.

Will it lock all doors if a window is down?

You own a 2010, can't you just try it? lol

Yeah, it'll lock the doors with a window down.

It made sense to me that if I walked up to the car and putting my hand inside the door handle would unlock it then there would also be a method to lock it the same way....

When I bought my prius from another dealership from the one I used to work at...I showed her that feature. She was slightly embarrased as she sold cars for 7 years and didn't know that feature. Goes to show that car sellers don't care about their products. (In most cases....as there are definetly still some awesome car salesmen out there)

It's crazy! When I was selling a prius I took serious time to show people all the fancy stuff. Not only does the car get 50MPG's but it also has what is called "stand out" technology. The smart key function is huge! Not to mention other technology inside... Most people still using a Key to "turn" on a vehicle that is brand new kind of baffles me.

(My next door neighbor has a CLK500 Mercedez that is a 2011 and Im pretty sure it is still a turning key)

Lets go Benz...get with the future. :)

The number of Prius owners that I see use the remote keyless entry to lock their cars hints to me that they don't know about the lock function (even on the Gen 2 and its black rubber button). Almost tempted to go up to them and say "hey, you can lock your car without taking out the key!)

Also, MB does have SKS (they call it Keyless Go!) and it debuted around the same time as the Prius did (circa 2004). The only issue is that it's a pricey option (in Canada, Keyless Go is just over $2,000 a la carte).

Just thinking about what our salesman did and didn't explain on the car:

    1. Did not explain the touch lock/unlock on the doors or hatch. (figured it out in a day or two, without looking at the manual).

    2. Did explain/demonstrate the use of the cargo net. (never used it since)

    3. Did explain the the front bumper tow lug (D.O.)

    That's about it I think.

My 2011 Toyota Prius only has the lock/unlock button on the driver's door. I miss it being on all doors.

Well, I found "reading the manual cover to cover" before I got the car didn't help a lot. WAY too much stuff in there to remember! For example, did you know on a "Technology Package" Prius there are at least -two- ways to do most things, sometimes three?!
I'm used to technology, I'm a tech, for heavens sake! But I was afraid to touch a button, not knowing how to "back out". Silly me. Getting over it slowly. ;)
Do be aware, the back of the owners manual is gold. The two, yes two indexes, are VERY helpful!

As I posted elsewhere, THIS is what makes the "Technology Package" "worth it". It's exciting each time I get in the car. I never know what I'll discover next!

Oh, and for those who have the sun roof/moon roof, the car is not happy if you leave it open when you shut it off. It beeps at you. Funny.

Which didn't stop me from leaving the sunroof cracked open while I parked and went into a store. Fortunately it was a fast trip. I'd pulled the cover shut without thinking, and never pressed the closed button. Oops.

Every time Rosie has beeped at me, I should have listened and didn't.

One of these years the Prius will have voice messages telling us what we forgot to do :)

And with the touch sensor, it'll be hidden even moreso than those with the rubber button. Oh well.

I had no demonstration of the Toyota nav system. Good thing I've "read" up on it (thanks TMS for all those videos!) beforehand.

The salesman that sold me my car didn't even know the proper way to close the tailgate. He actually put his hand on the spoiler and started to close it before I showed him the two handles that are clearly marked. He knew nothing about the Prius but he knew how to do the paperwork.

That would be a good surface to put that 3M clear film on to prevent scratches. My son put his hand on mine once and I let him know that is a big no no on daddy's car.

Believe it or not, it's a lot more scratch resistant than a similar shiny black plastic that's found on the smart (rear pillars). Those scratched the moment I hand-washed the car. My Prius' spoiler is holding up well. It's lightly scratched from a careless dealer car wash (never again) but nothing a bit of elbow grease can't (somewhat) hide.

The 3M film installer told me it would cost $80 to cover the spoiler. I just hate scratches on a car. The white paint would hide most stuff but the thought of knowing there is a scuff or something on the car would bug me :( I wonder if that spoiler is clear coated? That would explain why your's seems to be scuff resistant.

That's just sad. I sure hope those people didn't buy new. If so, then in my book, their salesman was negligent.

Mine showed me when I picked up my 06. He also showed me the long beep if you try locking the doors w/the SKS inside and how you can drive away w/o the the SKS (like when swapping cars w/someone).

Perhaps? Again, compared to my smart, it's holding up very well.

Oh I don't want to talk about scratches :(. I just picked up two scrapes - one from a taxi and one from a hit & run. Also, the front bumper and hood are covered in chips.

Some may know about it and simply do what they are used to. My father has been told/showed by me about the SKS MANY times over and guess what. He still insists on doing it using the key fob the way he has been doing it MANY years. Old habits are at times hard to break for certain (stubborn) people. :D

Tideland, I had "Firestorm" in Edmonton cover the front of Pearl S in 3M film. They do a very good job. You can't see where it's applied. They are not cheap, however. It was $1000 for the front, 2/3 of the hood, front part of the fenders, "A" pillars, and the glass piece from the windshield to the sunroof. Now I'm kicking myself for "cheaping out" and not having them cover the entire hood. The only way to know it's there is to see the line where it ends. If I had added the entire hood and entire front fender to the coverage (extra $150) those lines wouldn't be there. Hindsight!

As far as learning the car, I just realized yesterday I only had to touch the lock "lines", not hold my finger there until it locked. After a month! I also just discovered the "following distance" button on the steering wheel for the radar cruise. Too close to me to notice I guess. ;)
