i took my very very pregnant girlfriend for a wild drive just to help along with the labor inducing. about a 60 mile round trip of over 2000ft elevation changes, tight turns, all the works. i was flooring it every chance i got and driving like a 16 year old thinking im in a rally race( i had a blast lol ). ended my trip ( forgot to snap a pic ) and was very happy to see that i still had a final trip average of 36.8mpg for driving like a bat out of hell. all praise the hybrid.
Surprised your girlfriend didn't have the baby right there in the car Hope she enjoyed ride as much as you did.
Most cars cant even touch that 36mpg And the ones that can, jeesh prob wouldnt even break 20mpg driving wild and racey. Good Luck with the baby, hope everything is great! (our 3rd baby just turned one on the 6th!)
Just for kicks, do try out something like this (from last page of http://www.consumersunion.org/Oct_CR_Fuel_Economy.pdf): No need to switch drivers, but for good measure, start off w/a stone cold engine and turn the car off and on between runs. Also, on a cold winter night, try the test again, esp. w/the heater turned to max and fan somewhere above off.
