So, my moonglow c was attacked by an unidentified flying mineral. Right below my field of vision, put a nice chip and four or five spidering cracks. Pretty small, and I called my insurance and had it patched. The patch didn't help too much, and it's still pretty noticiable, especially in certain lights. Does anybody have an idea of what a windshield replacement would cost? I assume it would be pretty high as these cars are so new. It may be something I'll have to live with for awhile, but it makes me an unhappy nevon :(

Replacement should be covered by your insurance...

Thanks managerman, that thread is excellent. I don't know how I missed it. I have $500 deductable on my insurance, but I know if I use that then my rates will just skyrocket next year.

Your rates shouldn't skyrocket with a windshield replacement. Check your policy to see if you have "Other Than Collision Loss". That is the section of your policy that covers glass breakage. The deductable is usually much lower and there should be no impact on your rates.

Im not sure if they have OEM windshield for Prius C yet but I had a Prius 3G and I had a guy install a new front for $140. Dealer wanted $900.

Yep, that's my car and will have it's windshield changed tomorrow. Toyota was the only source for the windshield right now.

To be honest, I'm doubtful even now that they have the correct windshield and will insist they double check fitment before they take the cracked one out. Last thing I want is for them to remove the windshield and find out the replacement does not fit, then end up waiting months for the correct windshield to arrive with me left with an unusable car.

It just surprises me that they even had one in stock over in Oahu.

I'll pay $500 deductible, but I will be lowering the deductible on this car right after the windshield has been fixed. I was assured my rates would not be affected with this comprehensive claim.

I got a rock chip on my new C last Friday. Got it repaired but the rays of the sun still reflect directly back into my eyes, so I'm going to have to get it replaced.

Thankfully my glass deductible was already $0. The service department is having trouble locating the part #. Do you happen to have that?

I saw a chip in my glass as I was leaving the dealership after all the post-purchase handshakes. I pointed to it right as I was getting into the car and the sun shine glinted off of it just right. They agreed to have it replaced.

In the short time between discovery and replacement the simple divot developed a crack on each side of about 1/4". 1/2" total.

The shop they sent me to tried two other windshields (to see if they fit, 'cause they were cheap aftermarket brands and, after all, it's just another Prius (right?)). Naturally, they didn't fit. But they didn't decide that until they'd had it an extended period, got three days worth of shop dust on my open dash, scratched all across the paint from side to side above the glass (looked like they used a burlap bag as a wipe), got the black goo from the install everywhere, buggered up the sill protecters, and scratched the hood.

In the end they had to order the glass from Toyota because there was no aftermarket supply yet. They fixed the scratches and got the inside and outside detailed at the Lexus dealership. The experience sucked, the negotiations sucked, but they've fix and cleaned everything and it's all over now.

Makes me wonder whether the Toyota glass sucks worse than the aftermarket glass.

I would've expected them to use OEM Toyota glass anyway. Heck it was your new car, why should they be able to go tearing it apart and just replacing it with cheap aftermarket stuff right away? They shouldn't.

That's a bummer how the experience went. When the dealer ordered mine, they ordered it for the regular Prius first and then the Prius V; this despite having given them the VIN number so they could get the correct part.

Total cost billed to Progressive once it was all said and done $1365.57.

I would have expected OEM glass with a brand new car, too, but that's not how fix-it shops work. In fact, in my negotiation presentation I distinctly recited as the greatest cause for extra time and extra damage as the multiple tries at existing aftermarket glass in pursuit of cheap. He acknowledged without hesitation the requirement of the pursuit of cheap.

Same rock hit our moonglow, the glass cracked within 45 minutes. We've checked around and got priced from $1400 to $1600 out the door. Toyotar repair shop says in September of this year, they will have after market windshields made and sold to autolite glass or local compaines for a lot lower price. Good luck and be patience!!

I just had my windshield replaced last weekend. The crack started with a stone chip that quickly sprouted a 2-foot crack that snaked across the passenger side of the windshield.

It was covered by insurance (except $100 deductible); the auto glass shop said the windshield costed about $900. The windshield is not yet available as an aftermarket part, so they had to order an OEM windshield from Toyota. None of the local Toyota parts suppliers had it in stock so it took about 12 days to get it shipped to Illinois (Chicago area) from North Carolina.

Hope you have insurance coverage for this! :)
