Gen I Prius here. To those who have an OBD scan reader, where is a good place to mount the unit from the plug to the dash. Any one have a pic of how they mounted? Don't want the window suction cup, or the rear view mirror mount. Suggestions would help. Thanks
I pulled out the "ash tray" or coin holder I think they call it. I drilled a hole into the bottom of it to run the scan gauge cable up thru it. Hide the remaining cable under the dash and the cable holds the scan gauge on the top side of this coin holder perfectly. A simple glance down at the middle consele and you see everything fine. Prior to drilling the hole and running the cable thru the tray the gauge would slide off and end up on the floor of the passenger side. Try it temporary and see if you like the location. I would never use this tray for anything else, so this worked out perfect for me.
My days of working and so much happening, I may not get photos on here soon. Pull out the tray and run the cable up the right hand side of tray. If you like the position, drill the hole and that will keep it locked into place. Let me know how it goes. I love it there. My tires are the wrong size from the previous owner so my scan gauge is my speedometer! Works great. The company sent me an ISO ONLY cable for the scan gauge because I was getting faults with original cable. Known issue I guess. Just contact scan gauge and let them know ABS and red triangle faults started happening when using scan gauge on gen1 Prius. Now I can perminently mount the cable inside the dash board one day.
That's very good advice on the cable. Will keep a note on it when I order Is the ashtray removed, or is it slightly open to support the gauge?
Pulled all the way out. Test it out and experiment. The whole drilled with a cable going thru it will hold it in place.
