The Chevrolet Volt was the top-selling plug-in vehicle from the top six automakers in May, posting 1,680 units, compared to 481 in May 2011. Year-to-date sales for the Volt have risen to 7,057 units, compared to 2,184 units for the same period last year. In comparison, Prius PHV + Leaf combined sales totaled 1596 for May. Edit: i-MiEV data for May came out later.. it was 85units, So the Volt sales was just about the total of its three closest competitors combined! More at data at .. Green Car Congress: Volt top-selling plug-in vehicle in US in May, followed by Prius PHV and May Plug-In Sales: Volt 1,680, Prius 1,086, LEAF 510, i-MiEV 85. Focus? 5-ish
All those Californians yearning for HOV stickers tend to have longer commutes and the Volt is a good solution for them. Personally, I have opened discussion with Dianne about doing like John & having the Prius PHV shipped to me, or picking it up in person, paying CA sales tax, and driving it home to Kansas. Volt is not a great fit for me, as even the PHV will drop my local gas use to near zero, and the PHV does much better on our longer trips, and we value the extra passenger and cargo room.
BTW... the states PHV is available are: California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and Hawaii.
SO thats more than 15,000 total Volts on US roads now right? Whats the total for the Pip, something like 3600?
