That's it, I quit this website. I don't even know where this thread will show up or if anyone will read it. But if anybody is actually out there, goodbye.
Haha, I have no problem with them changing the format and look. But it's just not for me, personally. I come to PriusChat to help others and be helped about PRIUS stuff, but when it becomes too hard to navigate, then that's just a distraction to my goal. Yeah quitting completely is harsh. I won't quit completely. After all, I have a bad habit of typing "priu..." into my browser. But I probably won't contribute as much just because I'm probably missing some great threads and being too lazy to navigate the new site.
One of the goals with the conversion was to create a site that was easier to navigate, and easier to follow responses to your content (have you had any notifications show up yet macmaster05?). It's not like what you're used to, but I think if you take some time to familiarize yourself with things you'll end up finding the new design much more useful.
I actually like the new look. Easier on the eyes and easier to read. Navigation remains the same to me (I mean how hard is it to navigate a forum?) Yo Danny, any updates on the PC Shop? It appear to have missed the update and is kinda broken at the moment.
Thank you Danny, for your reply! Good to hear from you. Yeah it'll take some time to adjust. Personally I can use a break though, and I think now is a perfect time! I still think PriusChat could use a true, real-live chatroom. I love those! I'll suggest it on the suggestions thread.
Dude! Get a grip. Everything still works, just some stuff works a little differently. The differences in the software that Danny is using to run the forum. The reason you're upset is the same reason you should consider staying, you like talking about your Prius with other Prius owners and you want it to keep going. Had you come into PC when this software was running, you'd be complaining if he changed to the software you were used to. Just keep poking around until you find out how do the same stuff you used to do because you can everything you used to do. .
The Shop is still sitting on the old server due to some migration issues I was having, so I had to throw it in a subdomain (PriusChat Shop : Welcome to the Toyota Prius Accessory Shop) and put it on a dedicated ip address for a new SSL certificate. Because of the change with the ip address, some DNS changes have to take effect. You can force the changes on your computer by doing various DNS flushing options, or you can wait until the morning when everything should be showing up correctly.
That is certainly an option to look into. My main reason for hesitation would be the inability to capture the posts in a chatroom for future visitors (if the chat was used to answer questions or provide other information that might prove useful in the future).
In a thread long ago, someone suggested joining in while one of the podcasts is being recorded and just ignoring all the speakers in the podcast.
Yup, give it a chance. There's just so much to asborb at first, it's easy to feel lost and don't know what to even look for. I don't know how many times with my career (especially recently) that describing a new interface and even a brief demo hasn't been enough to convey what was trying to be accomplished. But then after they play with it for awhile, the feedback starts coming in. Much of is fortunately: "oh, that's handy". Obviously, not everyone likes it. Sometimes a good suggestion emerges too.
1st post on this thread: "That's it, I quit this website. I don't even know where this thread will show up or if anyone will read it. But if anybody is actually out there, goodbye." If I did not know better, I'd thought this was that 500+ post rant thread at Windows 8 Forums screaming about how the removal of the Start button will make Windows 8 Vista II. Oh - I thought this was a significant grievance. Someone that suddenly has to do things differently and five seconds later has to cyber-yell? Welcome to the 21st century!
This site is awesome. I have been on (Hubgarage.com) They got all Redneck on me for buying a "Jap Car" then bagged on it for being slow etc. CarDomain.com was better but they all want me to be a "Tunner" Loud fart can exhaust and 20 inch wheels. It is nice to have a place where everyone knows your game. MPG! I love ya all. Oh I have also been CarCrazy.com and Lenosgarage.com trust me. We have it real good right here.
I think the purpose of a chatroom would to not capture the posts and let users speak freely without worrying about the conversation being recorded/stored. Conversations will most likely start with questions/comments about Prius related things, but can go off-topic fairly quickly without any consequence. Obviously, offenders could be reported. Potential problems with chatrooms, however, include the same users being in it all day and hogging the space (if the chatroom has a limit on the number of users) and obviously trolls, which could be solved by making the chatroom somewhat hard to find/navigate in this website or requiring a certain tenure as a Priuschat member (5 posts, for example).
Better count on all conversations being stored or recorded by someone. There is a "Chat Room" feature on the forum. "Conversations" in the drop down menu is a chat room program. Click on "Inbox" at the top menu bar and then "Start Conversation". It's a chat room that you can invite others to join etc.
Honestly, I felt the old layout was easier to navigate, esp as far as the "home page" goes. I do miss the simplicity of the old "recent posts" that lumped everything together and the "unread posts since last log-in" option. Then again, I haven't had a chance to easily peruse the options/tools for customizing. The home page seems pretty cluttered, IMO, but it's not my website . I do like the display for the posts and the actual forum threads once you make your way to them. I know Danny has some migration and growing pains happening right now, so I'm sure that'll slowly work its way out.
