Well, I picked up my Prius about a month ago now and it was finally warm enough for me to install the sub amp. Honestly, this was the easiest amp install I think I have done to date. I currently run the stock JBL setup for now because I think it is decent for what it is. For the sub amp I run an alpine that does about 200Watts RMS @4ohms. I had an oldschool sub box (one of the many I made back in the day) with a 15" and 12" MTX in it, which completely drowned out everything. Even with the gains all the way down. It was fun, and it hit seriously hard. However, I am a long since retired bass head. For now, I have a pair of 6" woofers adding some low end, which will not last long because they are low wattage. I was thinking of taking the 12" out and just using that. Anyway, I was wondering what people were using for a nice well rounded sub that sounds good. Since this is my first "hatch back", any insight would be good.
A single high powered 8" can work but with your wattage a single 10" works. I really liked my Orion XTR 12". It was very smooth compared to the last few JL subs I used in the same system.
I went with the JL audio CP 108LG W3v3, its max 250 rms and its thin enough to fit in the cargo area. Well all most thin enough, about 1/2 in over, and it sounds great. EVO 4g LTE ? 2
i have a 10' alpine type R paired with an alpine MRP-m500 amp in my prius C, rear facing in the trunk. It has WAY more than enough power for my car, i have the gain almost all the way down and thats enough bass for me. I've got a 10" alpine sub in a tuned sealed box, just over 1 cu. ft. Paired with a 300 watt amp (I forget the make), it's more than plenty for a small enclosed cabin such as the Prius. It's amazing how much better a single speaker sounds when it's in a properly tuned enclosure! You don't lose response at certain frequencies like you do in a generic enclosure. Find the factory spec. sheet for your subwoofer; it should tell you the optimum enclosure volume. If you don't know how to do this, find a local independent shop (not a chain!) to do it for you. It's worth the $100 or so they'll charge for a custom enclosure!
Although it is not in my Prius, I've been using Image Dynamics IDQ subs for YEARS and is probably the best sub I've ever used (even got me placed at the regional IASCA finals a few years back with my Ridgeline). It runs fine on 200w RMS (heck, you can probably even run lower, it's such an efficient sub), doesn't require a whole lot of air (on the small side, I think you can get away with as little as .75 cu ft w/ polyfill).
Did you add a second battery? or what because im about to put a 1300w rms system in my 08 prius please help
