XM Radio

U can buy the siriusxm tuner from your dealership and it will then be fully integrated into your stock radio using the factory antenna.

Or you can just buy a siriusxm kit and put it in your center console and use it via the Aux jack, but then you have to open the console to see and change the channels.

 

where is the factory XM module installed?

 

If you bought the bottom of the line II, your HU might not accept a XM unit. Before you go dropping about 300 bucks for unit and install, make sure you can actually make this work with what you have.
Another option is buy a "Roadie" of other portable unit and put that in the car!

 

From what I've read it is installed under the drivers seat.

 

If your radio does not have a SAT button, then you cannot install a receiver module to get XM. You could get one of the dashtop receivers that plays through an unused FM channel or something like that....but it won't come close to having the same sound as the SAT ready unit.

That's one of the reasons we went with a package 4 2011....the XM SAT JBL system and we did not want cloth interior.

You could get an audio shop to install a whole new audio SAT system...probably better sound and cheaper than what the dealer would charge for a SAT ready radio head and SAT tuner.

 

Keep in mind on the 2012 radio its all touch screen, so from what I have understood once the xm tuner is hooked up, the button will appear on the screen. Waiting for the tuner to come in for my car.

I will for sure. My salesman said the part was ordered, so I'd expect sometime this upcoming week for him to have me drop off my car for the day again. I'll make sure I get the details, as it seems like I'm the first person in the history of the 2012 Prius II to do this feat, lol.

 

Got a call from Toyota this afternoon, I take my car in tomorrow to get XM installed. I asked what they were installing and they said a "radio module that installs in the dash". Ill post an update tomorrow with what happens!

 

LOL- I think you ARE the first person in the history of the 2012 to do this!... I know, because I have been waiting since march for someone to try this, and report back here... I am in the exact same situation as you, and I am dying to see it it works!
