Neither my dealer nor I can get the remote AC to function on my PiP. Has anyone gotten it to work and how did you do it? Thanks!
Yep, I use it quite a bit. Hold down the AC for 2 seconds. Car will lock all doors and turn on the AC to the past set temp. Will run for up to 10 mins. Turns off when you open the door. Double click the button to turn it off from the key fob.
You need to make sure the outside temperature is higher than what is set on your climate controls (just set it to LO to try it). Additionally, there are other conditions, such as the outside temperature needs to be over a certain temp and you need to have a minimum battery "level". Its in the owner's manual, which you can find here: http://priuschat.com/forums/toyota-prius-plug-in/103349-owners-manual-pip-out-9.html#post1513797
Outside temperature? My AC is set to 68, outside temp is 70 but inside the car it's around 90 because of the sun. Should the AC still work? PS: I have the "cheap" model.
Here's the related information from the Owners Manual (p371) !Operating conditions The system will only operate if all of the following conditions are met: "The shift position is in P. "The “POWER†switch is OFF. "All doors are closed. "The hood is closed. "The brake pedal is not being depressed. !When leaving the vehicle "Check that the headlights are switched to either off or “AUTOâ€. "Check that the wiper switch is turned off. "Check that all windows are closed. !Remote Air Conditioning System automatic shut-off The system will automatically shut off under the following conditions: "About 10 minutes have passed since operation began "Any one of the operating conditions is not met "There is only a slight difference between the air conditioning set temperature and the inside temperature. The system may also shut off if the charge level of the hybrid battery (traction battery) drops to low. (P. 52) !Conditions affecting operation The system may not start in the following situations: "The charge level of the hybrid battery (traction battery) is low (P. 52) "The air conditioning temperature is set at a high level or outside temperature is low "When the hybrid system is cool (for example, after being left for a long time in low temperatures) Security feature Any unlocked doors will be automatically locked when the system is operating. The buzzer will beep and the emergency flashers flash when the doors have been locked or the system has been turned off. (The doors locked: Once; The system turned off: Twice) !Conditions affecting operation P. 119 !When using the Remote Air Conditioning System A charging message will be displayed on the multi-information display. Different messages will be displayed depending on when the Remote Air Conditioning System was started (after charging or during charging). (P. 562) !While the Remote Air Conditioning System is operating "Depending on the operating condition of the Remote Air Conditioning System, the electric fan may spin and an operating noise may be heard. However, this does not indicate a malfunction. "The Remote Air Conditioning System may stop operating temporarily if other features that use electricity (for example, the seat heater, lights, windshield wipers) are in operation or if the charge level of the 12-volt battery becomes low. !Electronic key battery depletion P. 123 !When the electronic key battery is fully depleted P. 123 !Customization Setting (e.g. Operation using the on the wireless remote control) can be changed. (Customizable features P. 645) Precautions for the Remote Air Conditioning System "Do not use the system if people are in the vehicle. • Even when the system is in use, the internal temperature may still reach a high level due to features such as the automatic shut-off. Children and pets left inside the vehicle may suffer heatstroke or dehydration, or could result in death or serious injury. • The wipers can be operated during system operation. Children or pets left inside the vehicle may mistakenly operate these and cause an accident. "Depending on the surrounding environment, signals from the wireless switch may transmit further than expected. Pay appropriate attention to the vehicle’s surroundings and use the switch only when necessary. "Turn the wipers off. If the Remote Air Conditioning System operates while the wiper switch is in the on position, the wipers may operate and objects may get caught in the wiper blades. "Do not operate the if the hood is open. The air conditioning may operate unintentionally and objects may be drawn into the electrical cooling fan. NOTICE !To prevent the hybrid battery (traction battery) from being discharged through incorrect operation Use the only when necessary.
A week or two ago, I experimented with my base package Plug In Prius, while I was sitting in the car, and it was being charged at a charge point station inside a covered parking garage. I clicked on the a/c button, and it did turn on the doors were closed and locked, the lights were in off position, and my foot was not on the brake at the time.
I am using the iPhone and Android has the Toyota Entune App too! I also like the Vehicle Finder, it's like the "Find My iPhone".
Isn't that what I said ? And yes, I understand that at this time these two total to about 95% of the smartphone market. But nonetheless, the Bluetooth Blackberry Phone Contacts/SMS/E-Mail integration works very well on the Plug-in.
Ron, I wonder if this was similar to a previous issue with my 2010 Prius. It came with remote engine start, I followed the simple instructions to start the engine which it did and it shuts off after a few seconds. Took the car to the dealer and nobody can get it to work. The dealer wanted me to leave the car for a few days to troubleshoot. I finally brought it up to the dealer's service manager and they contacted Toyota to get some feedback. They finally found out my software wasn't installed properly or there was a missing step. After reinstalling the software, the remote engine start was operational
I have been able to get the A/C to pre-cool as long as all the previously stated restrictions are true. But what about pre-heating while connected to a charger. It's unclear reading the manual if that's supposed to work or not. Based upon the descriptions given it seems unlikely that it would preheat the car - even if you set the temperature to higher than the outside air temperature (and higher than the inside air temperature) and set the controls to heat or defrost. Should this work?
No. Main reason being the PiP needs the engine for heat. Second reason is the Remote A/C will not work if the outside temp is lower than what you have it set to.
Are there 2 different traction batteries in the PiP? One that the charger charges and one that the engine charges? The battery image shows full but the miles remaining is blank because I've used it all up. This is when the remote AC doesn't work.
I noticed that once my EV range is to 0, I do get a new full battery that shows up- but that is not the EV battery. And you are correct, the remote AC will not work once your EV range is to 0, you would need to recharge your battery (or at least have some EV range) to be able to use the remote AC that is my understanding of it . . .
There's one traction battery that the system uses for both EV and HV modes. The way the car displays the battery data, it appears that there might be two traction batteries, but really, there is just one. It is a matter of software (which we can not not directly control). You are not allowed to use the small bit of EV charge of the HV section of the battery until the engine goes through a warm up cycle.
We just got our 2014 Prius. My question on Remote AC is, is there any way to tell if it worked? I mean, if I'm not close enough to hear the car beep? It looks like the red light blinks on the fob whether it got activated or not. Thanks!
