I'm just hoping it is priced around Prius PHV price or lower.. if that is the case it could be one to look at...
The base Fusion Hybrid now starts $5k more than Prius. If the plugin premium remains the same (with extra EV range), it should start at $37k. Realistically, I think it'll start at $40k due to bigger battery.
C-Max Energi may be cheaper. It is going to be a hatch/wagon, sized between Prius and the v. Because it is a little bigger than Prius PHV and would have more EV range, I would expect the price to start at more than $32k. Lithium is not cheap. Toyota has said it before that it is not ready due to the cost / benefit. They finally got the price down (after 4 years) to make sense with the 4.4 kWh pack so here we have Prius PHV.
The price of the Camry has dropped for the 2012MY. The gap between the Camry and Fusion hybrid was around $2000. It's now $4000 to $5000 with the new Camry model. The big unknown with the 2013 Fusion is if Ford will follow Toyota in lowering the price with the 2013 Fusion. I think they will. Remember, the Camry had unseated the Taurus as #1 family sedan in America, and the Fusion isn't a fringe model. Now the Energi can still be pricy, and will likely have many forced upgrades to distribute the cost of the larger battery. After the release of the official EPA numbers for the Volt and Leaf, Ford did downgrade their projected range for the Focus EV. It is still early though, and that range estimate isn't up on the Fusion future page. Unrelated, but cool, is the non hybrid Fusions getting auto-stop.
We have from your old thread http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-h...lithium-ion-car-battery-costs-about-half.html This seems to say 50yen/wh by 2015 which is $605/kwh under today's exchange rate. Which means toyota didn't have costs down yet, but others did. The big cost drop happened when panasonic bought sanyo and got its lithium technology. I really don't know what the fusion and c-max hybrids and energi will be priced at. I expect the 2013 to drop in price compared to the 2012. The new one should be less expensive to make, and current pricing isn't competitive with the 2012 camry and sonata hybrids. I would expect the c-max energi to be within a couple of thousand of the prius phv after tax rebates. It would be nice if it was $29K or lower, but ford doesn't seem to be pushing that hard.
is the fusion competing with camry or prius? the reason i ask is, i thought it was the same size as camry, but looking to rent a car from thrifty, they had the camry as one size larger.
The fusion competes with the camry. It has a trunk Fussion is considered C/D segment, I 'm not sure how big the camry has grown in the new model year. Prius is C.
They are the same size. Thrifty probably feels they can charge a premium for the Camry by upsizing it. This is the first year Toyota offered a Camry hybrid with less features for a lower price. The 2011 and 2012 XLE are closer to the Fusion in price and equipment than the new LE. The price gap might actually have closed a little with the new XLE. If Toyota hadn't offered multiple trims, which was likely pushed by going hybrid only in Japan, there wouldn't be a large undercutting of the Fusion's price for the press.
I will happily buy a Fusion Energi if it comes in under 40k, I want better mileage and I like the way Ford does business
it will be interesting to actually see some real performance #'s for the Ford Fusion Energi. the hybrid for 2013 is rated 47 highway. throw a larger, more efficient pack in there and what might happen. sure it will probably be heavier but if you get 20 miles EV (which is what the PiP should have done!) then that is covering 70% of your driving needs amend the laws, mandate employee charging (cheap 120 volt is fine) and now that 40 mile EV range is covering 90%+ of our driving needs. i have to say, if not for the Prius, the FFH would have been an easy 2nd choice (for a gas option). its extra passenger room i would sacrifice for more storage/hauling options the Prius has, but i have had the chance to drive one and they are very nice cars!
2013 Fusion Is Loaded With the Latest Safety and Convenience Technology - CleanMPG Forums Post 7 on this CleanMPG thread supposedly has some pricing information for the 2013 Fusions except the Energi.
that is base price before destination. you will have a very hard time finding one at that price since the factory is unlikely to build one without any options. 2012 hybrids run in the 33,500 area. expect 2013's to be the same
2013 Ford Fusion Car | The All New 2013 Ford Fusion. Redefining Your Expectations Of What A Car Should Be | Ford.com Can now go to that website and see the price for the 2013 Fusion Hybrid, pick out colors and options, etc.
Only about $500 more than the Camry, and the prices aren't set yet. The hybrid isn't offered in the a lower trim. No pricing on the Energi.
The lowest Fusion hybrid is $2k more than the Camry hybrid. Perhaps it is the cost of going with Lithium. With the smaller gas engine (2.0L vs 2.5L), it should get better MPG but less power. Perhaps not by much since the Lithium HV pack should provide more power than NiMH.
I pointed out they didn't list a lower trim hybrid. The 2012 Fusion hybrid, like the previous Camry hybrid, doesn't have a trim designation. Hybrid was it. The 2013 bears a SE along with hybrid. There is also disclaimer about the build page being a survey and prices and features subject to change at the top. So a S hybrid is still possible.
the problem with smaller battery packs is charge management costs dont change very much when compared to larger battery packs so $/kwh is higher. so adding a bit more battery should be a less than expected jump in pricing. I think the Energi will come out priced UNDER the Volt...not much under, but less nevertheless.
I would hope so. It should closer to the Prius PHV in price than the Volt. Unless the battery size is greater than expected.
Built my Fusion Hybrid on the website the other day... With all the bells and whistles it comes out to about 31K... now if only my wife would find a good job... LOL... Word is.. you can order the Hybrid at your local dealer now.
