Is the Ford C-MAX hybrid a Toyota Prius killer? | TG Daily Glad to see some competition for the V. I like the higher roofline of the c-max and my ford touch is vastly superior to entune in my opinion. It will be interesting to see the fuel economy numbers. I'm curious if the rear seats slide and tilt like the V.
I researched both cars a ton before choosing the v. I wanted to replace my Blazer before the summer, but if Ford would have released their numbers and prices, then I may have waited. But the big numbers they released were the cargo room. It has significantly less. 25/54 compared to 34/67 (seats up/seats down). Those numbers make it comparable to the hatchback Prius, not the v.
Their is another thread talking about the two and I think Ford wants to compare with the v because they hope to have better EPA numbers than the v. They really should be comparing to the hatchback as it is shorter than the hatchback. Their EPA numbers are not going to compete with the regular Prius, so they want to use the Prius v to look good.
Ford My Touch and Entune aren't the same thing. It is like saying these socks are better than those gloves. (FMT is more of an instrument panel interface system while Entune is a wireless data interface.)
That's exactly the reason I disregarded the C-Max as a possibility. Really not even close to the v's cargo capacity. Additionally, my parents have a Fusion Hybrid, and while it's generally a good car, the gas mileage varies a LOT - and it's often less than the published range. With the v, we're almost always between 40 and 44, (mostly on hilly rural highways) and even better on the occasions when we do more flat/city driving. My experience, and just about everything I've heard from other Prius owners, indicates that Prius really lives up to (or exceeds) the published mileage numbers, while that's not always the case with other mfrs. We looked at the C-Max at the Chicago Auto show. The C-Max has been out in Europe for a while. Unfortunately Ford had it locked up, but It looks like a good option. I would love to have a plug in option, but the C-Max is smaller, and the cargo space was not enough for our family. We also didn't want to wait until the fall. Ford had the 2013 Escape at the show, but it was also locked. As it turned out, the V has more cargo space than both of them. I am very happy to already be driving my V.
It reads like it could be an in-betweener, if the cabin space is slightly better than the v, the cargo space is like the liftback and mileage is between the two. Healthy competition. There should be a market for it.
