I bought a certified used 2009 Prius last month. Last week I noticed that the right headlight was very dim, but the problem seemed to correct itself; the next day, both lights were fine. But this evening I found that both the right and left headlights were dead at the same time. When I turned on the brights, they shone for a second before fading; however, continuously pressing the indicator arm towards myself (in the "flick the brights" position) kept the brights on so that I could drive the short distance home. I think this is the HID problem I've read about here; is that what it sounds like to others? Because I bought a certified vehicle less than a month ago, should any Toyota dealer cover the repairs? I'm at 47,600 miles in a 2009. (I can't take it to the dealer I bought it from because I've moved cross-country.) What else should I know about having this problem fixed? I'd like to prepare myself and learn a little more about the problem before I visit the dealer, so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Do you have HIDs? If yes, you're covered by Toyota Prius Class Action Lawsuit | Toyota Headlight Lawsuit | Girard Gibbs LLP.
Yes, I had HIDs. I took the car in to a local dealer and it was fixed within two hours--free of charge, since I was still under the extended warranty. Thanks!
