The side airbag looks like it did a good job. Interesting to see that the flashers came on a fraction of a second after the impact.

now i just want to see a frontal impact! The side impact looks pretty good. but that was only 30mph which doesnt seem like much.

observations: wonder how the test is affected by running on painted floor as opposed to standard concrete or asphalt, which would give prius c more resistance to the impact. I guess the slick floor is the worst case for sharpest energy transfer to the car.

drivers shoulder and head are both cushioned against the door.

rear passenger is going to have a damn sore shoulder.

Both subjects are going to have sorely knocked knees.

Can't really tell if the driver's under-seat cushion airbag went off, I'd guess no.

I'm not commenting on the performance of the c, I'm just looking at what would hurt in a hit like this. I've not seen this kind of video before.

Lots of glass shards in the air following impact. Would not like to inhale a bunch of those chunks. This car didn't have the moonroof, I bet that would make a serious shower of debri...

Like I said not judging performance, just making observations on my first time watching this kind of vid. I'll still be accepting my c this week or next...

I guarntee you'll be sore and bruised in any small to midsized car after a crash, the safety features keep you from being broken and dead!

According to the Insurance Institute, their side impact test (at least) is more stringent than the one the Feds do:

    "Need for side-impact testing

"The Institute began its side test program in 2003. At that point, the federal government was already performing side tests on new passenger vehicles as part of the New Car Assessment Program. But the Institute was concerned that the government's test didn't completely capture the types of crashes likely to occur in the real world.

"That's because the moving barrier used in the government's test was developed in the early 1980s, when most of the vehicles on the road were cars, not SUVs and pickups. The height of the barrier's front end is below the heads of the crash test dummies. As a result, the federal test doesn't assess the much greater risk of head injury from impacts with taller vehicles. To fill this gap, the Institute initiated its own test with a different barrier — one with the height and shape of the front end of a typical SUV or pickup."

You're telling me, going from a 2010 Yaris to the C yielded a $210 jump in Premium. The C should be a safer car, this is NOT what I was expecting at all. Considering the quote I got a month ago yielded a $10 decrease in premium...

(30 y/o, no accidents, no tickets)

Might be time to start looking at new insurance companies for me.
