Apparently there is a problem with the in-dash display with the new Prius. I just noticed what looked like a a smudge in the middle in the display between the battery level and the power level bar. Tried to wipe it clear but it was not a smudge but was inside the display.

called a friend who is a mechanic at Toyota, he says this is showing up in a lot of Prius' after 15,000 miles or so. They have to replace a part in the display which is apparently overheating and distorting the plastic in the display. The replacement part is the same as the old part so it might not fix the problem down the road. it takes three hours to replace and is covered by warranty but who knows what's gonna happen later.

Yep, if it is the same replacement part as what is in there, it will fail again. The question is, does Toyota know about this design flaw to correct it permanently?

Hmm... 30K and nothing yet. I've heard that the display is reflected by a mirror, maybe you can clean the area near the bottom of the display and remove the smudge? Maybe not...

There has been numerous reports of everything from fungus to moisture on the lenses of the dashboard displays. Most dealerships started replacing the entire units.

I had moisture on the bottom of my MID display unit after running the defrost a lot during a long week of rain. My dealer was able to remove the instrument cluster, remove and clean the lenses. Looks much better.

I did not get a clear explanation as to whether they were able to seal the unit to prevent this from happening again.

I had the same problem with the in-dash display with Prius Gen.3 (2010).

I have noticed something that looked like a a cloudy smudge behind the MFD glass, In the part of the display that shows the power management (Engine-Battery-Electric Motor).

At Toyota dealer garage, they said this is a common problem, and the replacement is fully covered by Toyota Warranty.
They removed the upper part of the dashboard and replaced the faulty glass (It took about 1.5 hour).

Is anyone knows about Toyota Service Bulletin dealing with this problem?

No need to hear. You can confirm it yourself by putting your hand or a piece of paper in front of the display...

I had this problem on my 2010.
After only 3 months of ownership I noticed it.
It kept growing in the following monts.
I had the inside mirror replaced, and now, two years later,
    it looks just as new.

The only problem is that now I hear rattling noises from somewhere under the dashboard, on not so good roads.
