I have a Pioneer 12-disk FM modulated CD Changer that worked great in my previous car and wanted to transfer it to my new Prius. Apparently, the diversity antenna system in my 05 Prius is creating a problem by "walking all over" the signal from the CD changer. I can hear the CD, but the quality is gawd awful with lots of static. I have found out that FM modulated changers cannot work like they should in some Toyota cars that have this diversity antenna system.

Does anyone have a fix for this problem? How about a workaround? I don't think an AuxBox will work because the signal coming out of my CD changer is FM modulated, not a pre-amplified signal.

I'm running my old Pioneer 6 stack (from the 80's) in my 2004. The FM Modulator plugs directly inline with the existing antenna. On the modulator there are 2 frequency settings.

If yours is simular, perhaps you just need to pick an alternate brodcast frequency.

I found another post about a FM modulated CD Changer working fine in an 04 Prius. I need to know if the 04 has this diversity antenna system or not to see if the problem is a new problem in the 05.

My unit has a range of frequency choices from 88.1 to 90.1 and I have tried them all with no luck.

I would be suprised that there is no way to connect the audio directly. Especially for Pioneer, that should be an option, or rather the FM modulator would be an included option to direct connect.

Even with a modulator though, a better unit would have the FM injected into the antenna system.

Unfortunately, all of the FM modulated units I have found (Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, Pyle, JVC) that are universal units have only the FM modulation and no direct pre-amp output. The FM modulation is not the problem, the problem is that the diversity antenna system walks over the input.

Well, I made a lot of phone calls and found out a lot more information about my problem. Unfortunately, there is currently no solution, but one should be available "any day now" in the form of an adapter, but that cost is unknown at this time.

First, the software for the audio system was "upgraded" for the 05 Prius, which explains why the owners of 04 Prii do not have this problem. FM modulated units work just fine with the 04 Prius.

Second, no matter which FM modulated CD changer I use, I will have this same problem until an adapter is available that will take the output from the IP Bus on the CD changer and input it into the factory head unit. Until then, it will be able to play a single CD in the factory head unit.

Thirdly, the AUX-BOX that I have read about on this site is not longer supported for Prii because of problems that keep happening with them. Rather that trying to fix the problems, the company has simply pulled the support for all Prii.

I will post an update when the adapter finally becomes available, if ever. This has been the most frustrating experience of my ownership with the Prius. I love everythin else, but being a real music lover, this really hurts. I hope that one day Toyota will make the audio system more adaptable to the real world.
