I just put a set of 18x8 Motegi Racing wheels with 225/40-18 tires on my 2012 Prius. Looks great, but I have those crazy wheel well gaps. I'm ordering a set of TRD lowering springs. Has anyone lowered their cars using this set up? Does it rub? Is the ride super stiff? Does it look good? Does anyone have a pic?

    Thanks in advance,

    Alex

Here are my Motegi SP10 wheels in 18x8. I have the TRD springs as well...No rubbing at all even with my whole family in the car.

Keep in mind the TRD springs aren't meant for lowering. The focus is on handling while trying to keep a stock height, so they won't drop as far as Tein's or Eibach's

So TRDs will be safe for an 18' setup :)

I got mine with B&G lowering kits. It's 1.6" drop. I dont know how drop TRD will be, but I barely rub on my tires. The ride will be stiffer for sure (first 1000 miles will be worst before it will break in), but you'll love it when you drive on highway.... That makes a big different... Have fun...

Wow that looks great. May I ask what offset you're running? Do you rub in the front, rear or both? Where does it rub - at the top of the wheel well? Do you feel you need a fender roll?

That picture looks like you're at Point Loma..

    Nice looking ride...

hahaha....nah, picture was taken @ back yard of my office @ Carroll Canyon rd, but you pretty know San Diego area. Do you live here? Anyway, the offset is 38 all round. Wheels are 18x8.5. It does rubbing but very rarely, normally it rubs on driver side only (Am i too heavy?lol). I didnt roll the fenders. I actually wanna add spacer 10mm @rear soon to make it straight to fender...

I like the way your cars setup Justana the drop looks just right. I was originally going for the TRD springs like others however your 1.6 drop looks spot on.

The Prius Plus Package springs don't lower the car much. About an inch if you're lucky. If you like a dropped look then avoid them.

Thanks F8L, I think the 1.6 looks great, the wife needs to drive the car too but Justanas pic doesnt look low at all, perfect fender/wheel gap. Monday I get her so then its time to mod.

The ride is not stiff with the lowering springs. If anything, they feel slightly softer than stock - and are bouncier.

Eibach's are about an inch drop so it's similar to the TRD in drop.

With a nice forward rake, too (front fenders have less gap than the rear).
The car also seems to ride just as smooth as stock but handles much better. No bounciness, no harshness, just a smooth ride with tighter handling and better looks.

That's great news! I just want the gaps gone. An inch is perfect. Don't need a slammed car since I drive to San Diego from LA a lot.
