Anyone have this problem? 2006 Prius just started "shuttering" "jumping" "jiggling" when I'm crusing between 20-35mph, doesn't do it at take off or on the freeway at high speeds. Any help? thx,
Have the front end checked for tire balance, and suspension and steering linkage integrity. Every vehicle that I have had, that shuddered at ~2 wiggles per second or more at ~30-35mph, was due to beat up ball joints. Could be a wobbly tire due to tread damage. Jacking up the front end and lifting, spinning, or wiggling things around a bit should point to some looseness.
Thanks guys. 62,000 miles on it. Seems to do it when the gas engine starts up around 25mph, I know there is always some jerking but this is excessive. Took it to the dealership, they said no codes came up to indicate anything was wrong. I'll check the tires.....
Wheel lost a weight? Loose lug nut(s)? Worn/missing motor mount? Mud stuck in wheel(s)? Bubbled tire?
FIXED!!! After months of various opinions by mechanics, and my trying to explain that it shudders, jerks, slips, crackles, is bumpy, skips... the engine light came on yesterday. I decided not to take it to the dealership where some 23yr old just out of school will look in the manual, I took it to Bill Smith car in Solana Beach, CA for a fresh look by someone. The service guy Fred pluged it in and said the 4th clyinder is misfiring. He said 96% of the time it's the coil, he ordered a coil and a spark plug (just for good measure), he had the part within an hour ($56 from him, $104 if I got it from the dealer), 30 minutes later I had an oil change, replaced the coil & spark plug and after months of dreading getting in my car I once again love my Prius. Whewwwww, was really afraid it was the transmission or engine failure. thank you for everyones input!
So did you look at the old spark plug? Do we know it was the coil? Either way thanks for letting us know you got it fixed, nice to know a semi serious issue can be fixed for under $100.
