Re: DMV managed to screw up my green sticker application!!! Outsource!!!

The same thing happened to me. I received a phone call from my dealer that the plates have arrived, and my new license number on 4/13/2012. I immediately typed the two page form from the DMV website, and mailed it with the $8 check. The application form was dated stamped 4/16/2012, and everything was sent back in a letter postmarked on 4/26/2012 which I received on 4/28. The enclosed letter said that the dealer did not fully complete the registration process, and to resend the forms after I received the registration. In actuality the dealer received the registration with the plates, and I received it on 4/16/2012. I called the DMV today, and they said it takes 3 to 5 days, not including holidays, for the DMV computers to "synchronize", and a registration dated 4/13/2012, would not be on the other DMV office's computers until the 4/22, so it was sent back to me. I resent it today with a copy of the registration, just in case.

Damn...I knew it was the problem with the half billion dollars system we (tax payers) purchased. I put in a call with DMV Director's office and got a very nice manager to take care of my case. Actually I called to file a complaint against DMV processing. Honestly there is not much she can do with my case.

I also resent it back today... Hahaha... Let's see who gets the sticker back first!!!

I am still waiting for the manager to call me back!

Do you happen to know, when they cashed your check? After how many days of mailing the application?

I sent my application last week 4/30. No one seemed to cash my check yet. I got the secret phone number of Special Processing Unit. to call them you have to wait about 60-80 minutes. And often times they just hang up on you. How long does it usually takes from the time you send application - cashing the check - getting the stickers? I should have sent it with signature confirmation. Now I don't even know if they ever received it.

I mailed my application and check on 4/8. Received the stickers on 5/1.

Arrrgh! The application that I mailed on 4/28 was returned today. They rejected it because I didn't include my VIN, license plate number, make and model number on the top of the second page (I thought that was part of Section C, which doesn't apply to me). I can't believe they didn't just copy all that info off of page 1 and don't understand why it needs to be written twice....

That should have auto-copied into the form. I guess you must have done it longhand.

What sucked in my opinion was that you couldn't save the completed form as a pdf - it would only print. So a screen shot was the only way to have a copy electronically. Totally lame - and it was completely a constraint of the form.

Oy! Can't wait to see what happens with this issue: My registration was issued to Judy, but my name is Jody. DMV says I need the lien holder (Toyota Financial) to send in a correction form; Toyota Financial told me the dealer needs to send in the correction; the dealer tole me DMV needs to do the correction on their end. I am now in the DMV trifecta of hell! I think it might be easier at this point to apply with the courts for a legal name change to Judy! We'll see what the special HOV unit does with this!

I had a similar issue. I noticed on my copy of the registration form the dealer put the wrong city (when they mailed it to me, they mailed it to the correct address though... go figure). I contacted them immediately and they said they would take care of it, however at that point I already had a contact point for the person handling my registration because she had to get in touch with me to gather missing info. When I got my registration card a week or so later, my address was correct. So either she fixed it like she said, or the PA DMV noticed the error when doing my license plate transfer and ignored the incorrect city.

Someone HAS to be able to help you though! Good luck!

How long did it take them to cash your $8 check? I have sent mine about a week ago and my check is not cashed yet. Getting worried now.
    Thanks!

My check hasn't been cashed yet either. Over a week. I keep calling them, several times a day (special processing unit) ....blah blah please remain on the line... then, we have extremely high volume...blah blah... thank you for calling.. GoodBye....

    Outrageous!!!

My letter was signed for at DMV on April 19th. As of today, I have NO sticker, and they still have NOT cashed my $8 check! 20 days and counting.... it's costin' me since I cross the Bay Bridge daily! And I applied for the CARB rebate on April 9th.... no check yet.

Same goes for my tax refund from California... 45 days and counting.

Funny thing is, all my registration renewals from DMV arrived early this year- they don't expire till July and August but DMV's happy to collect a little early....

What tax refund? Do we get to receive anything from Uncle Sam? Can you elaborate on that, please?

Sorry for the obfuscation- I was just mentioning the fact that Sacramento seems to be dragging its feet on processsing state income tax refunds (nothing to do with a plug-in credit/rebate), while at the same time accelerating the collections for upcoming auto registration renewals.

I think he is talking about his state tax refund for 2011, nothing to do with the purchase of his PHEV. The credit for buying the car comes with the filing next year on the federal tax return for 2012. It is $2500, but you have to owe tax of at least that amount to get the credit. Consult your tax professional.

On the 3d day I finally got through their phone system. The official answer was - 4 to 6 weeks.... Relax, everybody))))

They don't log incoming letters, music-on-hold is from nineties, phone system from eighties, one-man-operation from the 21st century... what do you expect...?

Doesn't seem to be any rational explanation for how long it takes. Some people seem to get theirs within a couple of weeks, but others say it took much longer. I mailed my application and check on March 9, the check cleared on March 13, and I received the stickers on March 21. So an estimate of 4-6 weeks seems on the high side, but who knows what's going on these days in Sacramento?:(

OK--just a side note to all us Californians: if you want lots of services and programs from the state, but you don't want to pay any more taxes, it's gonna take a while longer. As state employees retire or leave, they generally cannot be replaced, so there may, indeed, only be one person working the HOV sticker desk.

and that one person is likely part time on the HOV decal desk. Probably processed as a batch once a week or so.
