Customizing lock functions

My dealer changed my Reverse Beeper to the one Beep mode this morning at no charge. :rockon:

Is there anyway to turn off the door Autolock function, which engages whenever the car is started or in motion. I understand the theft prevention for city drivers, and safety when kids are in the car, but have long wondered if it is not far more likely for rural drivers to be trapped inside and rescuers not be able to get them out in an accident, like what just happened in Logan UT. (the window had to be shot out by a rescuer so he could reach in and open the locked doors to save 3 kids trapped inside)

 

All this gives me a bit of a headache. All I want to do is keep it from UNLOCKING when I put it in PARK... Which set of events is that one, please?

 

Do you have a Gen 3 or Gen 2 Prius? You've posted in a Gen 3 thread yet your info says you have an 08, which is Gen 2.

If you have a Gen 3, which model year is it? Some former dealer customizations on the '10-'11 can be done w/o going to the dealer (where they use Techstream).

 

I guess I need to update that! Just bought a pre-owned certified 2011 Prius today, Package 5. Great deal, and my old Prius really held it's value.

I think I got it figured out from the thread above, so I'll call it answered for now. Too tired after hours in the dealership today to play with my new toy much longer.

The key was to remember that any setting can be toggled on/off by using the instructions. So if the car was already UNLOCKING the doors on park, I could follow the instructions that said "make it UNLOCK," and it reversed, turning it off.

 

Hi all,

I just picked up a 2012 Prius Two a few days ago. Does anyone know if the same customizations apply to the 2012 model? I want to make my car NOT to unlock whenever I put my car into Park.

(I see the same instruction in my user manual.) Still, I can't seem to get this to work. Here's what I did:
- Got in car and closed door
- Stepped on Brake
- Hit power button and waited for READY light
- Held the unlock in on drivers door for 5 seconds (counted 5 : flashes on the clock)
- Released button at 5 seconds.

and nothing happened... Maybe my timing is off? I've tried both pressing the unlock button sooner (as soon as I see the READY light up), and later (waited for all the beeping sounds to stop), all of which were within 25 seconds... I also tried with my foot staying on the brake the whole time, and my foot off the brake after the READY light is on.

Does anyone has a secret timing trick for doing this? I tried searching for videos on youtube but can't seem to find any... Any help is much appreciated.

 

Do you have the "entry function?" I don't think you can do this customization if you do.

Does "entry function" = the car unlocks when you grab the handle (with the key fob in my pocket)? If so, I do have it on driver-side door (I have Prius Two which only have it on the driver's door; and not the passenger's or the back gate.)...

Thanks, but I have Prius Two with no Nav unit so there is no on-screen menu for me to change the locking function.

The owner's manual that comes with the car (2012) states that I should be able to do exactly what's described here, with the same instructions as what all of you are talking about in this thread. I'm just wondering if my timing is off or something... I just wish there is a video on youtube or somewhere to show us new Prius owners exactly how it's done. Anyone looking to increase their profile view on youtube? here's a how-to that no one's done a video on it yet.

 

All the instructions in this thread are for previous models, not the 2012.

Do you have a Display Audio screen? For the 2012, look in your Display Audio System Owners's Manual, which is a whole separate book from the regular Owner's Manual. And be sure to look at the first page 117, in the no-Nav section, not the second page 117 in the Nav section.

Does this make sense? If not, there must be another complication that I'm not aware about.

 

Ok, I'm an idiot! There is the "Vehicle" setting in my Display Audio screen! I finally got it!! Toyota makes it a little confusing with 2 different manuals. Regardless, thanks so much fuzzy1!!! :rockon: :cheer2:

 

Frustration! New 2012 FOUR Prius, trying to program the door lock functions to open all doors when the driver's door is opened. I've read manuals and repeatedly tried to follow instructions found on pages 89-90 of the Owner's Manual. Instructions read: 1."Close all doors and switch power "ON" Perform 2. within 20 seconds. - 2. Shift to "N" Press and hold 'unlock' button on the door for "about 5 seconds then release." Must've tried 25+ times to no avail.

Anybody have a hint? One previous post commented 'exactly 5 seconds' and I've tried that... same failure.

 

The instructions on pages 89-90 change if the doors lock/unlock when you shift into drive/park. I believe you actually want the instructions on page 70:

It is possible to set which doors the entry function unlocks.
Step 1) Turn the “POWER†switch off.
Step 2) When the indicator on the key surface is turned off, push and hold
or for approximately 5 seconds while pushing the button on the key.

See that page in the manual for what the beeps mean.

 

Does this apply also to the 2012 Prius 3rd gen.?

 

I have 2012 Prius Two and I was able to change the functions using the on-screen menu.

When the car in on (with the READY light is up); on your Prius main screen:
-try press the "SETUP" (physical) button
-then "Vehicle" (on screen)
-you should see the settings like "Auto Lock by Speed", "Auto Lock by Shifting from/to P"??

I guess in 2012 models, they changed it to the main screen now instead of doing it manually through the lock/unlock buttons. (Or at least in my 2012 model Two car.)

I like to have it so it does not unlock when put in park which you can do but the doors do not automatically unlock when I turn off the car or open my door so I have hit the unlock button if I have people in the car.
If you know away around this besides changing it back to unlock @ shifting to park let me know...thx.

 

This worked well for my 2012 FOUR with nav. Sat IN the car power OFF, pressed both lock & unlock buttons on the remote. After a few seconds, a graphic appeared onscreen indicating which doors would open with the remote.

Still can't get all doors to unlock when touching the driver's side door handle.

 

I have 2012 Gen III, unable to link the unlocked when driver side door open. Read all the treads, Power On, Shift to N (and let go), press Unlock button for 5 seconds but it does not work!! Try more than 50 times still not work. Anyone have luck with this 2012?
