Toyota of Marin is offering customers on the waiting list the opportunity to take possession of their cars on the last two days of december, with a January date on their paperwork. I went in today and talked to them and they said that there were so many soon to be 06 owners wanting to wait for the credit that the general manager is making this exception..... anyone else here doing this? They seem to be a reputable dealership by all accounts.... if my paperwork says 2006 things should be fine, right?
If by "fine" you mean "fine me for tax fraud", then yes. If you take possession of the car (or even the keys) in 2005, you will not be legally eligible for the credit. Please review the Replying to Tax Credit - Toyota's Official Position thread.
Whoa. What if someone with a camera wanted to be a "whistleblower"? (Most likely, only someone who hated Marin for some reason---or hated the buyer---would do such a far-fetched thing.)
Indeed. Please call the manager back and enlighten him before he "inadvertantly" screws his customers over.
My dealer tried the same thing a couple of weeks ago, mostly out of ignorance. With Toyota's policy posting, there's really no excuse for this anymore.
The dealer I am working with the other day, tried to sell me a much one with a package 3 instead of the 7 i have been waiting on, and he tried to talk me into getting it this month verses next month saying that the 2006 tax break will not even reach personal buyers because of the hugh back up orders that companys have on order. I think this guy is a fool..
opppsssssss way to many typos up there. I should be in bed,, haha gosh I messed up that message up there. lol
I hate to say I told you so , but I and others predicted this rash of end-of-year shady dealer crap. The only ones dealers are helping are themselves. Stay away from these idiots. Spread the word. B)
I knew some dealers would get antsy to get Priuses off their lots by mid-Dec., but I didn't suspect many would get stupid/unethical. Sad.
