    My best EV range test is 14.4 with no regen. 1 mile to the entrance and then the freeway at 55 (consistency when I'm testing). 'Fairly' flat the whole way.

    Impressive. I can't do that well. I finally filled my gas tank, after 635 miles, comprised mostly of seven 80 mile roundtrips to work with a single charge at the beginning of the day. Actual mileage for the tank was 75.2.

    A co-worker has a PiP and the same commute as I, but he just drives as fast as he can down the freeway, and pays no attention at all to any mileage-extending driving techniques (I've carpooled with him; he "just drives"). He charges up at night, and he gets 62 MPG. In a standard Prius, he'd probably pull 42-45 MPG.

    I must admit, John, I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or serious when you were complaining about not using up your full EV charge (in HV mode with the engine warm). I didn't think your 'just drive it' driving philosophy would allow you to finish off the final remaining EV charge.

    So, to me, that says that you think that the average driver (without changing their driving techniques) can actually use up the full EV charge (in HV mode) if they do fire up the ICE on their journey. I tend to accelerate less when I get to this stage in a effort to avoid turning the ICE back on. Maybe you would use it up in 'stealth mode'.

    The more I drive my car in warm weather (finally we are again warming up in Minnesota), the more I think that a warm battery and warm EV system are significantly more efficient:

    Today, with a ambient temperature of 77F (and very little wind), I got my best gas mileage ever on my way home from work: 1 full EV charge, 23.1 miles, 309 mpg (normally I am very happy to just get > 200 mpg)

    [Maybe charging the battery in the sun isn't such a bad deal after all!]

    Temps play a huge factor which explains the focus gettting more range on a smaller pack over the Leaf. The focus integrates 3 separate cooling loopsand a dedicated heating loop to maintain optimum temps for the controller inverter and pack so outside air temp effects afe eliminated when plugged in

    It's easy to forget that the efficientcy improvements in the EV system with warm temperatures also applies to the EV portion of the HV battery capacity: In the warmer weather I've been experiencing, I keep getting home with a warm engine and 4 or 5 bars left in HV mode (rather than the goal of the minimum of 3).

    (I love using every last bit of EV the car can safely give me). :)

    96 MPG measured at the pump last night. :rockon:

    7.314 gallons of E10, from traveling a total of 701 miles (still had 2 pips on the gauge).

    78.1 kWh measured at the plug (25.2 recharges @ 3.1 kWh each)

    I suspect that will be my best tank for a very long time. Biking season has begun, so lots of long-distance highway cruising is in store. Carrying 2 kayaks on the roof will obviously impact efficiency too.

    Of course, the biggest news is that I will have to begin sharing the plugs at work. Eeek! It was nice having that entire area all to myself. Not being able to plug in anytime I want will obviously influence results. But then again, that area was designed to support additional charging-stations later. It sure would be exciting to see the demand for more emerge right away.

    And now for something completely different...

    A/C USE DATA

    I took advantage of the remote A/C feature, via smart-phone, but I bet the via FOB works the very same way.

    Watching the real-time data the ChargePoint app offers, I saw exactly what happened when clicking the "Turn On Climate" button within the Entune app... after the battery-pack had been fully recharged. It showed the rate at which power was being drawn through the plug to run the A/C, which confirmed the battery-pack wasn't being used. More importantly, it showed how much energy was used.

    For a 10-minute remote run cycle, 0.25 kWh were consumed.

    Conrats! Thats fantastik John. I filled last week, figured at the pump 803 miles with a 235 mile road trip on interstate at 70 mph, 94.4 mpg one pip left, this car just rocks! :D

    I filled my third tank of gas today (Unfortunately I accidentally reset my 'trip' meter last week so I can only go by what that gas pump tells me to compute mpg):

    EV = 567 miles
    HV = 459 miles
    Total = 1026 miles

    Gas = 7 gallons (car), 8.615 gallons (pump)
    Electricity = 112 kWh
    Gallons saved = 9.1

    mpg (from pump) = 119.1

    (I thought I had done better... but my car only saw 7.x gallons while the gas pump put in 8.6 gallons...I'm buying my gas someplace else next time!). :)

    Overall, not bad, when one considers I had one 150 mile day and two other 100 mile days. Charging several time each day can really help offset those high HV mileage days.

    Tomorrow will be a 4.5 x full charge day... Way to start the new tank statistics off well! :rolleyes:

    I can't get over how efficient this car is in HV mode on the highway...

    Today, driving 147 miles (into the wind, no less), with an elevation change of ~500 feet (end destination uphill compared to where we started) with three people in the car (and luggage) we used only 2.34 gallons of gas and one charge: 63 mpg (simply amazing)!

    Am I the only one impressed with the car's HV mode?

    So, is it your belief that the Prius Plug in obtains better
    mpg's when in gas engine mode than the normal Prius
    like the one we own?

    Yes, I would say that is correct. Our 2010 never did quite this well.

    I definitely believe that, about 35 Mpg better than my 05. Lifetime Average is now 86 mpg, last trip cons: 96 mpg. Last trip was about 40 miles on my way to Cool by way of Salmon Falls Rd to Rt 49, all curves,hills, down,up, slow to 15 mph then return to 40 mph. Also used power mode on steep hills. Car performed flawlessly. I was able to save EV and regenerate also, while in HV, it is exactly as John1701a describes. Unfortunately, the remaining EV
    charge was used, by returning to EV. From that point on I had to drive in HV Eco. The trick is stay in HV and charge EV and use later when appropriate, ( City or town ). Just think....I get 35 mpg MORE. There are many vehicles that do not even get 35mpg. Personally I think a person is a fool NOT to buy a PIP. excepting, Leaf, Volt and Tesla owners.:D:D:D

    Yes, I think so. In HV Mode (ordinary Hybrid mode), mileage is higher. Why would this be? I think the reason is this: In standard HV mode, the battery stores excess energy. The car then releases this stored energy. With the larger battery capacity, the battery can both store and release more energy.

    I drive about 80 miles r/t on a very congested highway (880S in the East SF Bay). My mileage gets very high in stop and go traffic, where I get a lot of regen and a lot of EV use (low speed starting and driving slowly between 24 and 35 MPH). This gives me around 70-75 MPH, which I couldn't get with my 2010. When traffic is light, I cruise a steady 60 to 65 MPH, and mileage falls to about 62. On my initial drive from LA to SF, I got 53 MPG in 400 miles, this with no charge. My usual mileage would have been 47 to 48.

    It's also the fact that the battery is Li-Ion rather than NiMH.
